Speen Moors

0730 - 1645

Mild, overcast and quite breezy. River low.

4 Chub; a 2lber and 3 chublets. 9 Perch; 4 over 1lb, best 1lb 15oz. 20 Roach & Dace. 30+ gudgeon and a brownie of around ¾lb.

First time in years that Paul and I have spent a whole day at Speen and it meant we had time for a good wander - though the best of the action was had in the first couple of hours which accounted for all my decent perch (and the 2lb chub) and a fine brace of stripeys for Paul - a 2lb fish was followed next cast with one of 3lb 5oz - his biggest from Speen in AGES! (edit - his biggest EVER from the venue - and the 1st 3 I've seen since I had a 3.06 in Oct 09 http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/index.php?/blog/82/entry-377-3-october/ )We both wanted to find some decent chub - though the only one I saw was a simply hugmungous chevin laying up tight to the bank as I made my way back to the car at dusk - will definitely have to have a go at it next time!

Pics courtesy of Paul as per usual!

Paul decided on a rest and some quiver tipping for roach (he had quite a few up to 10oz)

Paul's 3lber - as fat as a football!

A nice return Chris, still one of my favourite venues. Did you use the underpass entrance or Enborne?

Used the underpass entrance Rusty, it was ok, bit of a puddle at the field end, and the track is quite badly cut up at one point.

My 3lb'er is my first 3+ from Speen, previous biggest being a 2.13 back in October 2008 !!

I have heard of Speen producing a few 3lb perch in recent years. The swim where CP keeps telling me to use sweetcorn is worth a lobworm or two.
