Rusty's chub live again!

The Flying Tench

Monday 27 Sept, 3-6pm

With Rusty's permission I decided to have a crack at his chub. I passed by earlier in the day and had a look, and at least one of them was there. But as Rusty had found, they weren't easy.

First I tried lure fishing - and just lost a couple of good lures. Then I tried a popped-up lobworm. I must admit I was a bit worried that my ham-fisted lure fishing might have spooked them. Also, even with the rod set up with the tip high the pull of the current racing through made it hard to register bites - not that I think there were any.

Still, for some idiotic reason it was enjoyable wading in the fast water, and strangely reassuring that the chub were masters in their own domain.

Then I decamped to a nearby gravel pit and spent an hour with maggot feeder. Just had a few small ones.

Water Temp in the river was 10.5degC, 14.5 in the lake. Both were lower than I would have expected.

You certainly don’t need my permission to fish for them John, I’m glad of the extra thinking capacity. You’re right, there is some perverse pleasure in knowing that their lair is providing the protection they seek, but… I have another plan.

If i have got the stretch correct from information ive read, i have previously enquired about fishing from the other bank and the response was they will allow you to fish all waters on their land for free as long as you ask permission on arrival. And if i have the stretch wrong i now look like a tit lol.
