  1. Thanks for your comments Chris. I agree the issue is not at present trawling for the sand eel that is the immediate problem as i understand that some of the boats cannot even reach their target quotes. However, apparently there are huge or was recently huge factory ships targeting the sand eel. My overall concern is that have they been all ready taken, if not where have they gone, or is there something that is preventing them from recovering. Again i consider this to be a very important link in the chain. I further understand that there could well be a further ban on fishing for them after they said that the fishery was sustaianable in the not so distant past. cheers barry
  2. I cannot see it happening, after the sfc subbmitted their proposels they then issued the prevoius years commercial catch report indicating a very healthy fishery. If they did it would be the biggest own goal in the tourist, boat charters, rsa's history i think. Won't be long now. cheers barry
  3. How about previous quotes, 'the trawlers look more like submarines entering port? cheers barry
  4. To date there is still the consultation period to complete, only a few days left. It may go buttocks over tit if the proposals are adopted making the rsa's give up their fish to the commercial sector to enjoy. This is where previously the commercial sector accused rsa's of selling their catch, black fishing, decimating fish stocks etc, made directly before posting record catches. This has still not been resolved. There has been no retraction of these comments made. There has been no corroboration, proof, evidence submitted to substantiate the comments made. There has been no additional comments made in the local paper since April to again back up the origional allegations made. In a nutshell untill it is resolved there is still a lot of unhappy people both in the islands and also up and down the south coast.
  5. Hi your petition would have a lot more credence if it was drafted fairly. To propose that the commercial sector and not all to be excluded for a period is unbalanced. As a dedicated rsa i'm willing to try anything that would make my fishing experience better but at the expense of not just commercial fishermen but all of the other trades in general, i.e. wet fish shops, fish and chip shops, the general public, cost increase over and above the price rises already in the pipeline. I do understand that what you propose could have an effect on the fish stocks in amount or size in general but there is also a lot of other possible reasons to consider for the lack of fish. I am aware that the south west commercial cod stocks are not in decline so global warming is not a major issue as far as i'm concerned. The north sea however is a concern but again there could be a variety of other reasons or issues to affect the cod stocks in particular . My personal consideration is that the food chain is being affected by overfishing in part and that by creating ntz just for commercial would not be the answer. I would suggest that the eu amend their current legalization to improve the foodchain by restricting the take of fishmeal products as apposed to a blanket ban somewhere or other as you propose. Where do you consider that the areas of ntz could be, it appears to be vague and leaves the petition open to being watered down and to have less effect as other petitions may come along during the course of the next year of a similar nature. kind regards barry
  6. Couldn't agree more, you must know what these eastern europeans are like, hungry!
  7. To promote a petition is one thing but to get into personal battles on the web site could mean that the topic of interest being cancelled and that would be the end of the promotion. Personally i would not let any discussion get personall, not worth it. Cheers barry
  8. He's argument could be worth something but his personal insults semi- sarcasm could mean trouble. regards barry
  9. P.S. Any commercials out there who wish to target a particular abundant species, french, english, dutch all welcome. Called dogfish, there must be millions of the critters.
  10. Thing is i tried it this sunday. Off folkestone i was blooo.................dy useless so i think i might just stay on the internet forum. cheers barry
  11. In my mind this petition is badley drawn up. It is preduditial against commercial fishing and could also affect wet fish shops, chip shops etc, etc. This would be better directed to the people who make the rules regarding the seas around the uk namely the eu, they are the ones who's ears need bending. I also have two choices and wish to make my own mind up, not to be dictated to as to how i should vote, surely. regards barry
  12. I cannot agree with this petition as it is against one part of the whole fishing scene. If you wish to create ntz it has to be that every one suffers for the benifit of all. Not just commercial. Regards barry, dedicated rsa.
  13. Hello Charles, Congratulations two fold. First is for your excellent programmes. Second by personally joining this forum you have silenced your critics, well done hope to see more of you on telly. regards barry
  14. Leon, this is a very heavy discussion, the question i ask is what this ultimatly has to do with the rsa angler in the first place, of all the years i have been fishing i have never come across rsa's selling their catch, i find this difficult to comprehend that the rsa is lumped in with the lower end of the commercial market and all that it entails. So rsa's do not even have to consider the tagging of fish unless they choose to move towards the commercial market. I would like to see hard evidence of rsa's selling before the possible restrictions that are being banded around.
  15. Hi Wurzel Could you please give us all your take, on the current bass, cod situation and how you would move forward with regards to saving something for the future generations, perhaps give us your ideas on increasing the worth of the fish stocks, size maybee. Please do not say ban all rsa's or change of goverment, what do you consider the way forward realisticlly. Regards barry
  16. Cut and thrust, cut and thrust, more fun apart from fishing. cheers barry
  17. [quote name='frankthebass' date='Nov 16 2006, 06:38 PM' post='695107' What planet are you living on Wurzel? As it cant be Earth, catches of decent sized bass here in Essex from the shore have plumeted over the last 5 years. The last few years i have been visiting the portland race. The majority of the bass are very small, you have to be a bit lucky to catch any thing of size. The best chance for me to land a resonable size bass is while wrecking where they obviously have some protection. regards barry
  18. The law is an ass. what is the difficulty in closing the loopholes in making it illegal to sell any fish what so ever if you do not have a licence, rod and line, netting or from a fishing boat, whatever kind. Why won,t commercials press for that as the logical answer as apposed to restricting all rsa's as the choice. As for enforcement and conviction, you have to be tough on crime and the causes of crime. Someone else said that i beleive. Who voted them in? I hate golf. regards barry
  19. [edited to remove reference to some deleted trash that would make no sense with the trash gone. Newt] Getting back to the latest news on the bill, i have not the energy to read all of it but my interpertation of the headlines is that there is nothing for rca's to worry about except to consider a code of practice. For the commercial there is a small amount of jiggling to consider with regards to the lower end of the market. So no great changes are in the offing. Am i near the mark? regards barry
