  4. i understand where your all coming from on this thread owever i know myself i started fishing when i was knee high in germany on the wesser then when we came back to england use to go out and blank all the time not really getting the lessons. wasnt till i joined the RAF that i got back into it and that was when i was in northern ireland on the rivers catching 100lb + of bream now i love it dont care if im catching on a canal or a fishery but i do admit thats why i prefer match angling cause you go to catch constantly unlike siiting in a tent bivvied out for 4 weeks for one bite. getting kids involved however i think its good to go to a venue where they are going to be catching constantly unlike a canal so thats where i belive the fisheries are ideal i know one of the raf clubs took all the kids a couple of years back to 1 of the bigg fisheries and they loved it just on a small whip. An idea maybe ask the club you fish with if there be happy to take a day out and advertise in your local tackle shop and paper to get kids to come along and have a day fishing while the club runs them through the basics and maybe out of 10 only 1 kid will want to take it up more seriously and maybe set it up as a on going thing every month or even every fortnight in the holidays if you charge the parents £15 a child i think they would be happy to get them out there hair for a day..........thats really only a quick plan it would have to be more well thought through obviously......... i think something should definately be done on a big scale to introduce kids to fishing im all for it?
  5. am i only aloud to mention one thing thats not fair. it all starts for me the night before waiting to go to sleep to wake up early takes u back to being a kid at christmas never know what ur going to get. getting up stupid oclock in the morning making my flask of coffee creaping round trying not to wake the missus jumping in the car with all the anticipation of the day to come. turning up at the venue just as first light is starting to kick in and you take a little gander to recce out what peg your going to sit on as you do so fish are topping all over the flat surface just eager to wet my line now. all set up baited the swimm rod is in the water pour my coffee light a cigarette and just waiting for that first fish to ease the butterflies even if your not catching i love the whole being wrapped up warm under my brolley with the pitter patter on the canvas while the surroundings around me are alive a heron sat on the far bank a robin landing on my rod tip or at my feet feeding on rogue maggots a rat running round pinching bits of corn. and then bang the float goes under or the rod tip quivers strike get in the tip bends feel the fish on the end through the line and the rod and your not to sure if youve gone too light on your tackle heart is pumping you get it too the bank landing it with 1 smooth movement with your net and there you have a prime specimen of a fish in the keep net and wait for the whole experiance again. packing up at the end the excitment of seeing how well uve done have ibeaten personnal best

  9. hi all ive just got back from fishing a match at a fishery down south which charged £8.50 for the day ticket. I and 1 other blanked 3 people caught 1 fish (roach) 1 person got 1 1/2 lb then 4 lb and the winner got 6 lb all roach and belive me it was not without trying and even last weeks match was apparently won with 10 lb of roach from a diffrent club. how can these fisheries justify charging £8.50 to catch a few roach i do understand its winter and its getting cold however the last few days have been mild why dont fisheries reduce there prices fo winter does any1 else agree or even does any1 have any tips for fishing these places during the winter
  10. i use braid which helps greatly with feeder fishing again if u clip the line as u cast hold ur rod up and the feeder will pull the rod which cushions it causing you not to ping your feeder half way to eniskillen there is also 2 ways of fixing your feeder to the line i use for still water or the lower bann where i fish regular when there is very little flow make 2 loops on ur main line a foot apart fix your feeder to a foot of line such as 3lb mono then on the end loop attach your hook length if you hold your hook so it is aprox a foot and a half away from your feeder so when you do tighten you are pulling your hook into the middle of your groundbait taking into account youve mixed your bait proper so it is quite dry. the other method is when there is a flow usually this thime of year the bann really slogs through have your feeder sliding on a 3 loop system however only have the feeder able to slide bout 4 inches then your hook length 6 to 8 inches away from ur feeder mix your groundbait slightly wetter when you cast prop your rod in the air preffebly with a back board just cast and leave the tow will pull ur rod in a bent position so in effect ur rod is holding ur feeder on the deck when the fish take the bait they relise the feeder teh tow then takes the feeder down hooking the fish so in effect its similar to a method feeder you will detect ur bite by the rod will go slack then bend round back to its original position so a drop back bite as such. this is the tactics i use on the lower bann and eniskillen for bream and many a pleasure day ive had 150lb plus hope that is a help if not get back in contact and i will try and help stu
