  1. i`m in stupid mode (what do you mean again :D ) i was composing a reply to a post and when it came up someone else had posted almost the same just before me so i went to delete it ,but i cant see how ,i have done it before but now cant remember how? is there a doohicky missing?

  2. be very carefull with the descriptions on e`bay ,look out for the terms "well used" "some paint loss" "seems to work ok" and "i`m not an angler" and blurred photo`s etc these are "get outs" incase the thing doesnt work , a good seller will provide you with more photo`s and answer specific questions ,if not then leave it ,i`m not saying all sellers are con artists but one or to are ,as it says on the bottom of the page caveot emptor (buyer beware) and check the sellers feedback .i was caught out with one reel the bail arm was a bit of coat hanger wire (in hindsight the photo`s never showed the bail arm up close),so study the photo`s carefully ,good luck

  3. slightly on another vein ,i wonder how many swans were counted in the latest "upping" ,could the numbers be down ,not trying to cause an upset are there too many "sanctuaries" for swans ? (i have nothing against them) but on a visit a few years ago to a very famouse one i couldnt help noticing that "able" swans were flying in for the free food (generously donated) the water in the lake was rank ,i doubt that very much could live in it ( fish etc) i have no qualms with people helping injured swans (we contribute with our lost lines) etc but i expect there is a negative position as when the breeding season approaches we all know that males fight with others and cannot tolerate each other even on a big lake ,swans are hardly on the brink of extinction and are usually looked on with fondness by all so have little to fear ,should there be less help for them so they can act more naturally and thin out in the surrounding area ,or is several hundred ,wing to wing now the natural way for people to see them ?

we all see strange little old ladies on telly with a house full of cats ,the floors covered with crap and a smiling rspca chap "helping" by taking a few of her hands ,but collect swans ,fill a lake with swan crap and it becomes a sacturary ,is it a collecting impulse or a real sanctuary from what?

i am NOT trying to cause a windup just wondering why swans

  4. hi elton ,i hadnt even considered static pages ,i was just being humble asking for a little subsection to the forum ,mind you it is a good idea ,the only downfall i can see is that it may become graphicly intense (pics of our beloved collections etc)and i expect even nick of the n would become overloaded ,i am sure my humble collection of intrepid pics (about 35 so far )would consume too many resources , it would be very hard to describe fishing tackle (its 12ft long with round ringy things and a blunt end where the windy thing hangs) so maybe my idea was a little optimistic and not thought through fully (well i am chesters1) but what do the rest think?

  5. when tench was my prey years ago ,i used two 14" garden rakes bolted together back to back ,the metal shaft holders (sockets) were brutilly beaten flat with a 2 pound hammer and a whole drilled completly through for the short steel hawser that the rope was attached to ,pretty no ,but it worked :)

  6. no in bromley kent ,but my kids went to weydon eerr now their over 18 i devolve all responsibility why lyn ? (hastily thinking of alibi ,unsure of lyns "civil service" profession) :D

  7. what we need is a "collectors corner" original title or what .....what ,and bringing back to the top to catch eltons eye

we do need a little section ,your wizard question is just my point ,we need this info before its forgotten

it could be that they changed lables for no reason at all ,but how do we find out?????????? hopefully there is someone out there knows ,at least the answers will be available to other collectors ,when i started collecting intrepids (ok there not that old or rare) from memory i could only recall 5 or 6 models ,surprisingly enough i have a list of 30 + several varients (not just morritt but gladding as well ,morritt was still in charge though) in 20 or so years time these cheapo reels would have been forgotten ,yet they were the LAST fixed spools made in england :( they are british fishing heritage along with the more famous brands :)

  8. as in my first post the blame lies on my shoulders (read it again) i have no excuses ,when i first had the option of a pension it was in 1995 i was 42 to get a decent pension i would have had to put more in than i earnt (i was on £9,200) i had left it too late :( the only way round it (remember 1p more than the maximum allowed )was not to have a pension at all and live on the state one ,not a good choice but my only one ,i am not abusing the system (as stated earlier) i am using it ,yes we should provide for our future ,unfortunatly not all can :(:D

  9. yes i do have it sussed ,and because people like you pay for my dole and pension i`l take it thanks very much ,you obviasly dont read the papers or watch telly because you`l notice that most pensions whether state funded or private are worthless ,the state pension wasnt set up to make people save for retirement it was set up to provide a pension for the poor who couldnt afford a private or works pension ,which (the magazine) states that ANYONE of any age if they earn under £13,000 (and this was a few years ago) is advised NOT to take out a seperate pension as the contributions to provide for old age would be more than the wages after tax AND NI (that funny little tax that provides for unemployment and sickness benefit) you recieve, NI is the pension contribution that i and every one else pays FOR the benifit i`m getting if the government hadnt (via the council) stuck it nose into my affairs i would have still been working at the university of surrey ,i didnt choose to be homeless ,i didnt choose to be unemployed ,luckily due to lies coming forth from the council THEY HAD TO REHOME US (power of the press) we used up all our own money surviving for a year of homelessness ,and only claimed as a last resort J.S.A before starving to death,my wife due to epilepsy cannot work ,i have been unemployed for about 5 months and in my working life probably about the same again , I HAVE PAID INTO THE POT and now am getting a small amount back (very small).

if you dont like it then tough ,vote in a government that stops it, till then i`l take MY share ,and you can lump it  :D and by the way i have never earnt more than £13,000 so i`m just following advice :D

my dad had 2 small pensions (navy and another) he had to go back to work after retirement just to pay his rent ,he had a heart attack whilst working and died a week later ,pensions STICK `EM at least on the basic pension your rents paid :)

i have just calculated a pension forcast scheme using the NHS site (for the nhs pension scheme ,about the only one i could find)

if i had been earning £10,000 a year for 15 years

the YEARLY pension would be ....£1,875 on top of the state pension .wow you cry it must be good.

if i subtract my rent + c/tax it comes to -£1869 in other words you will be having to pay £1869 (about) out of your state pension ,so you will be that amount poorer than a person without a pension (approx) pensions still a good idea? remenber benifits are based on savings and income ,a penny over the max and your buggered

and another thing if youve saved all your life for your house and contents ,please never become so ill you have to go in a home because YOU WILL HAVE TO SELL IT the nhs certainly wont pay and few pensions will be enough to stump up the several hundred pounds a week for your private care ,still think i`m stupid ?

  10. try here for your old teacher

    http://www.friendsreunited.co.uk/FriendsRe....ASP?WCI=FRMain

find your old school (you dont have to join to look)

as for pensions i have none ,thinking about it my life has been a waste of time (besides passing on my genes ) in my youth in the sixties i failed the 11 plus ,i was persuaded to go to work at 15 rather than take exams ,jobs then were in abundance so tried lots of them out :D so never had enough pay to even think about my future ,i GREW UP at about 25 :( worked for the same bloke for 14 years untill he moved to france (he did offer to take us with him but not liking frogs declined :( ) then i worked at the university but then it was too late (thank goodness) .

unfortunatly a lot of people have taken up (under gov pressure) pension plans that are worth less ,lots of promises were made but have fallen by the wayside .

i am having an interveiw as a toilet cleaner this week (crap money but still more than university pay :) ) and a pension is involved ,i shall not be joining it ,i have decided (on seeing my dad in the same situation) that a small top up to the state pension is pointless and leaves you worse of ,i want the basic state pension and nothing else at least my rent and council tax is paid ,scrounger YES ,bigot YES ,stupid NO not now :D

  11. no i`m not that old :) i have been posting using "the old gits" (harry enfield) as a template ,i am a mere 48 (feeling 60) married to the same woman for 28 of them (yes someone puts up with me) but coming from a poor family was raised in a 10 year OLDER method :D

  12. anyone have an e`mail address or url for these people

on a search the links i find dont go anywhere ,believe it or not this firm operates from the old intrepid works  and i need a picture of it for my research :)
