Not caught one for decades round here and only heard of one or two as a bailiff .Long gone are the days of losing hooks catching bootlaces by the hand full spoiling your day
-
They are probably buying the elvers from elver catching licence holders at ten times the price the catchers get flogging them abroad .I can see an easy solution ......

Not worn out my diawa something's or other from the 80's yet but a good price compared to the rest . Just wondering how it justifies its name ,crawling about on slippery roofs ? Scaling cliffs with a katana in its teeth or most probably killing itself when the bailarm spring doesn't spring closed .

Watched a couple of guys going from top of Scotland to lands end ,one in a diesel one in an EV ,EV cost twice as much in 'fuel' and took 6+ hours longer .Once it's nothing but EV's the 15 minutes city will be here because you can't afford or find anywhere to charge up so you walk like our medieval ancestors were forced to by their over lord's

This guy's about again and seemingly mastered Spanish
Now this guy is wandering around with a phone on a stick in the most dubious places in the world without a problem it seems
Would he do the same in londonistan ? That phone would be gone in an hour thanks to Khan's deliberate mission to make it a third world country ,he's done a remarkable job it's now a fourth world country

None here either unless their eyes can see IR from the cameras and being in the sticks it's really dark when there's no moon .
We can see them but they don't know it ,strangely humans appear not to notice CCTV and it's dull red glow (a different story if you viewed using a camera it lights up and can be seen a hundred yards away) even in the daytime it's not noticed a workman had a wee 4 feet from one in clear view
Our doorbell tells us of something approaching and turns on our echo8 if someone presses it .3 of 4 of our outside cameras have motion sensors but they make so many mistakes they are disabled but one only has 'human' detection but it's alarm is off as there's no settings for switching it off over night ,the DVR beeping at 2 am is most disturbing when it thinks a spider is bill the burger.
A couple will notify you of noises but it's pretty crude it's supposed to be hearing breaking glass but a noise is a noise so it's been limited to recording not notifying .

Update to the trick or treat mass influx from last year ,the numbers are down but it's now obvious it's not locals or even outsiders from the local middle school whos children come from far and wide and bring the street to a standstill every afternoon at 3pm ti 3.30 (don't kids get out early today!)
A mini bus must have disgorged some brats half way up the road then not realised all the roads are cul-de sacs and drove down and then had bother turning round as there's not much room at the ends .He reverse beeped away for a minute while his load passed him and then once they had stripped anything left they followed him back up .
After they went up I went and put the catch back on the gate (the shiny new stainless hasp and padlock stopped them cold ) and I had a peek up the road and the mini bus was sat up there waiting but going by the screaming the brats were going down the adjoining road looking for loot .Raining now but looking at the CCTV there's a faint brat noise so I guess the next batch is on its way
AHA that lot were the lot who got through the gate last year ,the same adult pulled off the catch then realised further down was the improved defences ,you could plainly see (with a bit of zoom one the camera) him trying to push the gate open but 1" screws into oak don't budge
I half expected him to hoist the brats over but he just followed the brats noisy exit to pick at the empty wrappers further down. The first kids came in daylight to reap the best of the takings .Having spoken to Stanley's mum last year they spotted one kid emptying the bowl into a carrier bag so intervieand and made it put it back and this year screwed it down and refilled now and again .Must be mad sweets are bloody expensive just to give away to strangers when there's a fat bloke across the field willing to take them off their hands lol
I was thinking of putting a bowl up next year about 8 feet up in our tree with help yourself on it and a pumpking below and put wrappers in it ,might be amusing to watch lol

Not many of those round here the rivers very shallow ,we were entertained watching a couple of Muslim girls doing strange things with a phone camera .
We speculated it was for college? It comprised of assembling a folding table in several places in the field and taking turns to run to it (the phone propped against a tall tin?)
Waving their arms in fits of laughter .
They moved to the kids park and did pretty well the same jumping over or off bits of play equipment and as they had several A4 bits of paper it was scripted. I was going to stroll across and ask what they were up to as I recognised them from the ghetto but old guys talking to young girls is seen as evil today .It's a shame I talk to anyone I don't give a crap if they eat babies so long as they're not bothering me or mine .
I know most of them from metal detecting their fields they are not the chip on the shoulder Muslims with attitude from Oop north ,they realised early on I am not for converting as does the local JW Mandy(must have been a stunner in her 20's) ,the local vicar gave up 40 years ago lol.
Going back to nubile women there were plenty when fishing at the frenshams and usually without lycra at all on a warm night ,unfortunately most had drunk boyfriends so you pretended not to notice and gawped but many came in groups without boys at all got drunk had a swim and partied ,I loved the 70's

He certainly would have loved the end of my garden ,I chucked a mouse I caught in a trap and chucked it over the fence and a red kite instantly landed and grabbed it ,talking ten feet here ! It scared off the 6 deer that were watching me from the middle of the field .

I just drifted away, seemed to me that we were just going round in circles, answering the same old how-to questions. That said, I miss the friendships and the odd fish-ins and heartfelt discussions with Jerry Castles for example. Having signed up to the the ancient order of boring old fartdom I now browse vintage and traditional angling face-book groups, remembering when Capta Leads, Intrepid Standards and Model Perfects were must-have gear!
You forgot Racine torture ,were intrepid standards ever sought after .Saying that when an uncle gave me his when he bought a supreme you couldn't wipe the smile off my face and the plans to use it.
Nice to see you post again ,old farts certainly welcome

It's far worse than that there's the "always" and the "traditional" voter that lack brains .
We have always voted ........(usually like generations before them) the proud working 'class' ( pronounced like ass)
And the Tory heartland of the south who think they are different and not 'working class" (pronounced like arse)
And those that think liberal but act puritanical
Yes voters are insane they repeatedly do the same think trying to get it to come out differently .with the party system you can never get democracy you get one set of two ,when one set goes out the other set gets in and all the time they get away with it your vote is wasted .
There's the chance of a difference but those parties with Britain and Brexit or regaing power from WEF or the UN or WHO or the EU will bicker and fight ,the heads wanting to keep their power instead of joining and not splitting each others vote .
The best way to get democracy is ditch the bastards and vote on everything of importance online with postal voting for those that refuse or to stupid to use technology (or refuse to as if it's the devil incarnate) it's not impossible let a score of elected form sides for the mundane stuff and let the masses have a voice not a party with agendas
-
I think the Tories ARE labour but a little bit more fluffy ,they certainly are not Tories of the past .
I guess their manifesto is to not get elected at the next election so labour have to sort England out ,even labour will be hard pressed to make it worse but going by the past.......
Perhaps the "new" parties are hoping they DONT get in ,unfortunately they split each others vote but if they got together with Farage at the head they could do well but unfortunately well meanings and getting Brexit really done won't help them solving the sorry mess of the last 30 years when it all started going down hill.
As I used to say to the old lanc pilot now sadly gone we have seen the best of it it's all downhill from here we will end up with a Tory 1984 or worse a labour 1917 .or worse a caliphate under one of the new guests arriving daily at dover whilst the Tories and labour tell us how they can do better then ignore their own words and do far worse

Bread is very underated I have caught every UK fish I have ever caught on bread at some time , yes even pike and perch I presume they see it sinking and grab it instinctively?
As for mullet they are finiky at the best of times and catching them on anything hard ,I once saw one heading for the hills seeing a small feather drifting down towards the surface never mind a bit of bread ,only ever caught two small ones as I don't fish for them since I was a kid desperate to try to catch them in port Seton harbour long ago

Don't have a clue about fighters I am too busy listening to his commentary

No worse, his is made of steel and only one tab, theoretically you could drill a hole and bolt it together once you want it to hold proper weight
I spotted a set of dexion shelves in a skip up the road ,they were narrow only about a foot wide with steel shelves .I bagged it but realised they were to long to go where I wanted them . Being steel I cut off 6" from all the shelves with a angle grinder and bolted it back together ,I have no doubt if you did have a chieften engine it would hold it

Have you still got your huge collection of reels Chesters?
Was it intrepid reels ?
Yes growing slowly ,once you get all the main ones the rarer ones come far slower .I started collecting intrepids 23 years ago but still have approx 25% of reels and boxes to find .The first two reels (I have one) I will never get the boxes all my fastly dying intrepid workers cannot remember what the boxes looked like they had labels but just a brown cardboard box as far as I can find out they were sold by a couple of tackle shops so may have relabeled them as their own as many did then) so they won't be complete and there's a few gladding boxes I have yet to find but the hardest are the late ones ,by then there were far better reels for the same money so sales slumped ,most were just reboxed old stock trying to look new.

I have dexion shelving in my shed (the gkids call it my shop) very strong but due to the weight on it (mostly many flavours of fizzy drinks cans ((bubblegum flavour is the favourite this month )) it's sagged trapping my tool box .
I don't keep tackle outside (safe area but I don't take chances) so live in the loft but my intrepid collection lives in the bedroom (Mrs loves waking up to see them .......not!) In my corner and my pc desk is my work bench so the Mrs punishes me by "tidying" everytime I play on it (usually when I'm in the shed hunting for some special tool to fix something
Something going on in the shed all was fine yesterday but for some reason the window now has the most spider web I have ever seen I think a family has moved in on, I have to spray round the cameras tomorrow (anyone with CCTV will know the problem ) so they will get a bit aswell . The buggers have acreas all round the house but they just love annoying me ,i dont bother them in the fields why do they find the need to dangle on my cameras setting off the motion sensing
I had to shut the gate so the foxes didn't do it now it's bloody spiders at least the door bell is left alone so it gives its little beep when someone creeps up the garden .Once winter comes things improve.
I have put a brace on the back stretch of dexion but I cannot do the front edge or the drawers won't slide out I may have to screw wood to it obviously the 3/4" thick shelves are to bendy.
My son bought some off some shopping channel pretty simple to instal but badly designed ,you bash the horizontal bits into the uprights with a mallet but it's only supported with a little tab that's pressed out that locates into a slot .it seems ok but I wouldn't trust it with any real weight on it unlike dexion and it's bolts and braces .
PS my Mrs would "tidy" the **** out of your mancave ,you wouldn't find a bloody thing

There's always the ones who inwardly gloat about others problems .My mother in-law was told she had a year max left when she must have been in her 30's ,she died in her 80's !
I wonder now how many are prematurely dying due to government mistakes in COVID and the present petty union interferences ,they don't care no-one ever gets punished they just say " lessons will be learnt" then forget it instantly and get a pay rise and people don't keep pursuing them to get them punished IE they may eventually get sacked at one place then get a job with more money down the road.
Cheap reel.

They just chuck in a few more bearings and thinner plastic for the body and a quick paint job to catch the eye .Modern reels are vastly better machined than old ones but the basic designs the same ,it's a device to store line and catch the eye of the gullible neophiliast nothing more (ok I googled) .
Bearing overkill is a moot point I have had many tangles where you set up a rod and put it on its rest with the handle 'just so ' and the damn thing is so loose its handle insists in moving by itself spoiling my day .I am the boss if I want my handle horizontal it's damn well going to stay where I bloody want it
multi step anti reverses help (about the only good invention along with bait runners since the 50's) but that's not the point .
Luckily my pocket decides what's bought not the lust for the new fashion that rarely lasts 6 months before something with an 'X' or two or an agressive name like beast master or ripper on the label crops up to tempt the foolish .If it ain't broke it's fine imho
Thinking about it what HAS changed there's been a few fads like line going through the rod and closed face reels but technically all that's changed isn't design but materials that have. But graphite rods are just an refinement of fiber glass not some tech that's changed tackle since the 50's or before. You could even say an intrepid elite was a bait runner it allows line to be taken with the spool closed but then if you loosened the clutch they all do .All inventors have done is turn a line holding drum 90 degrees with the means to put the line on it for storage and release ,basically my old turn spool spool alvey is it's dad .
