  1. Mate, nice reels. Got a 501, 503, 505 and 2 x 506. Thread your line through the metal cover, tie the line round the spool, screw back the stainless steel cover, replace the metal cover. Make sure the line is coming off the spool in the same direction the reel is turning.
  2. Been looking at the chod rig to understand how its made up. Whether using lead core or not, looking at the mechanics of the rig, is it correct assuming that when you get a fish on, the hook link and lower rubber bead which secure the 'chod' in place will slide down towards the lead ? Thanks.

  4. I've never heard of an Esterberry, but all the fruity flavours seem good for tench. I must admit, I'm a bit partial for ANTBAIT Softees hooker pellets. I was given a few tubs about 2 years ago and they have still kept their shape and smell. At the same time I bought some mainline soft pellets and they've disintegrated as well as Dynamite bait pellets.
  5. What has been your favourite boilie or soft pellet for bream and tench ? Make, size, colour and taste ??
  6. OK mate. When I get the time I'll put together some cracking pictures of some swedish crucians. Plenty of crucians in the dark forest lakes because of the copper content, hence the fish go dark and copper looking.
  7. Hi mate, The report of the ’record’ breaking Crucian Carp appeared in the ’Piteå Tidning’ 4th June, 2009. The fish was caught in Persöfjärden, Norrbotten County which is in the north of Sweden. There was one comment to the news on a fishing forum site that questioned the weight/length as that particular guy said he’d caught a crucian of 2,670gr measuring 47cm. There again, some people argued that the captor might have measured the fish incorrectly (never include the tail) in that case it might have been 57cm. The photographer is the guy below and I’ve tracked down his contact details for you. Photographer; Johan Honkamaa tel: 0046-920-760 05 Mobile: 0046- 70-309 13 51 Alternatively, you can contact the newspaper Ms.Ylva Lindgren (ylva.lindgren@pitea-tidning.se) tel: 0911-645 16. © 2008 Piteå-Tidningen Ansvarig utgivare: Matti Lilja Läs PT som RSSTelefon: 0911 645 00 Fax: 0911 646 40 ” All the best,
  8. Looks like the Korum Precision specialist rods will replace the Korum 3G rods although the 3G are still available. Apart from price, does anyone know the actual difference between the two ? Weight difference ?? I’ll be using mainly for Bream / Tench and perhaps the odd specimen bream.
  9. OK, I ordered a Fox Stratos FS7000. Will pick it up when I'm in the UK over the weekend. I liked the option with spool reducers and the choice of single or double handles. Now all I have to do is find a decent lake in Sweden with good sized Bream in. Very few carp lakes. That's why I'm thinking of renting my own lake and stocking it. You'd be surprised at the number of lakes over here and amazed of the lack of bank space.
  10. Hi Carassius, I'll try and find the original article and photographer. There was some debate on some swedish angling forums so I'll check to see what they said.
  11. Hi Mate, Won't be casting that far. Guess around max. 40 yards (?) bit less for bream fishing, so I know the Shimano would do the job, just wondering about any alternatives. As for rods, I'm looking at the KORUM 3G 12 / 2lb test rods.
  12. Hi all, The Shimano reel seems for many to be the first choice of reel for light carp work with the 5000 RE one of the most popular. I do think the spool is fairly narrow with a slight increase of spool height, I would have preferred a ‘mini’ big pit reel if there was one with a line capacity of around 200yds / 12lb line. Is there an alternative to the Shimano reels ? Anyone fancy the Daiwa Regal Plus BRI-AB reels ??
  13. What’s the advantage of having a double handled fishing reel compared with a single handle ?
  14. I checked the Transglobal website and it looks like they could do it for around £20 + vat with free pick-up. Brilliant. Thanks for the tip.
  15. Hi Budgie, I went through the motions of getting a quote on the interparcel website but before I could actually see the cost, the step before was to send an email to the courier to book the pick up ! UPS wanted like £75 ! Thing I can't understand is that on ebay, you can get a rod sent to you for £7.50 by Royal mail 2nd class standard. Although on the website they say the max.length is 150cm (5').
  16. Price was good. Mine's an 11' rod so it's 5' 6" plus.
  17. Anyone got any ideas about the most economical way to send a fishing rod abroad ? It will be in a tube but there’s length restrictions wherever you look. Would the post office or parcelforce do it ? DHL sends costly. Thanks for your help.
  18. Thanks Rich, and everyone else for your replies. 10lb will be about right. Checking for wear or changing frequently anyway. I'm going to practice that Palomar knot coz only today I went for an hours piking after lunch and lost one of my Buster Jerk baits and trace because of the poxy knot. Funny world though, I lost my lure and come across some line tangled up in the reeds, I gave it a yank and out came a 28gr / 10" wobbler ! Thanks, we evens. (sorry a bit off topic).
  19. Hi Budgie, Thanks mate. I will also use a mono hooklink if I use like a method feeder or straight swimfeeder fishing. I wouldn't use a braid mainline because I'm not fishing that far out. Funny you mentioned Stroft mono line. I use it all the time. Before that when I match fished I used Damyl. Which was also a strong line, low diameter. I'll be using 10lb Stroft mainline and 6lb & 8lb hooklinks depending on hook size.
  20. Hi Lutra, Yeah, a bolt rig. Maybe I'll stick a heavy feeder instead of lead. That Drennan sink braid stuff comes in a good selection of b.s. Very very seldom do I fish for carp mainly because over where I am (Stockholm) there aren't too many carp waters. Naturally, if I fish the few waters that have carp - then I'll up the tackle.
  21. Thanks guys, never thought of the fish care aspect. Never caught that many fish I suppose. So what do you rate as the best braid for hook links ? Main target is bream, big ones, but I don't want to go too heavy.
  22. Does anyone use fireline hooklinks instead of nylon and standard braid for carp, tench hook link rigs ? The diameter is less and fireline’s very strong. Although I'm wondering if a more supple hooklink would be less abrasive. I used a low diameter fireline 0.10mm for bream. I was surprised when the hook link snapped off at the swivel. Another drawback with the low diameter is that you can hardly see it and it's so fiddly.
  23. Can anyone comment on this rod ? Looks pretty good. Will be using it for method feeder, bolt rig for tench and bream. Line about 10lb, hook link 8lb. Thanks.
  24. Thanks lads for the info. I couldn't get my head around it so that's way I had to post a question. Obviously the penny has dropped at last. I'll just have to put it down to old age or literally not using the feeder all that often. Be sure I'll be given it a good go next spring on the River Hossmo in Sweden. That is if I can get a swim. Monster bream down there. One young lad had 27 bream between 7lb to 12lb one night. Here's a pic of just one of them (don't think you need need the pink wolly hat).
  25. I recently bought 3 feeder rods below and have a few questions. 1 x 13’ Trabucco Sygnum Super Power with 2oz, 3oz and 4oz tips 1 x 12’ Shakespeare Mach 2 medium/heavy with 1oz, 2oz and 3oz tips 1 x 11’ Browning Syntec Force Feeder with 1oz, 2oz and 3oz tips I’m not pleased at all with the Trabucco rod, the blank is thick, heavy and the balance is way off. The Shakespeare rod is a nicely balanced medium action feeder rod with the Browning Syntec rod having a bit more fast action in the blank. Pleased with both. Now I’ve used the Shakespeare and Browning rods about 10 times with the 2oz tip. With a 1oz feeder and 1oz of bait = 2oz. Now I reckon the 2oz tips are too weak, the bend in the rod is far too great for the cast in my opinion. I know you’re not supposed to whack the feeder out because of line break. The 3oz tip should be far better. Bite detection shouldn’t be any worse. As far as I understand about 90% of all feeder rods have 1,2 and 3oz tips as standard. So what’s the idea behind it all ? Does anyone use a 1oz tip for feeder fishing ?? The same 1oz tip that comes with a rod with an 8lb line rating ? Is a 2oz tip for 2oz of bait ? What I really wanted to buy was 2 rods, preferably same make with the same line rating and tip alternatives (2,3 and 4oz) but at different lengths, 11’ and 12’. Korum do a Neorotic rod with 2, 4 and 6oz rated tips at 12’ but none at 11’ and I thought then that I'd never use a 6oz tip. As said, I’m pleased with the Browning and Shakespeare rods and I’ll probably try and get 4, 5 or 6oz tips that will fit. Although surely at these ratings and when you’re using a heavy feeder and hair rig with boilie or pellet, you might as well get a light carp rod and use a bite alarm set-up. Lastly, does anyone understand the 13’ Trabucco rod. It’s provided with 2,3 and 4oz tips but on the blank it says casting weight up to 150 grams.
