On my own clubs pool we can only use free running set up's so iv'e done a little experimenting with set ups the one i favoured &got best results was i always fish with Emstat type feeder,was to take weight out of the end &just use the weight of the ground bait to cast out with.So when the groundbait has fell of your virtually freelining .After feeder has been in a while give reel handle 1/2 a turn this brings all the set up into a straight line, also brings hook length to front of baited area so when a fish is hooked you can pull it away without disturbing the rest of feeding fish i use traditional bait runner set up with rod pointing straight at baited hook you can use a bobbing bite indicator but i just wait till the free spool starts turning i dont strike really just pick up rod &give a slow upward movement the fish already as hook in mouth you only want to set it .I found if i struck violently the fish went of like a scalded cat .Doing it gently a lot the fish were turned &halfway to net before they realised they were hooked. This method has often caught me fish when others using weighted feeder's failed to catch.

Hi you, Carp guy's can you give some help i'm looking for a carp rod /rods to match the 2 Shimano Medium Big Pits Iv'e just purchased.do i buy 3 diferrent rods 1 for margin,1 for clearwater. 1 for snaggy swims or go the whole hog&buy a Daiwa Infinity X 3.5 lb test curve ,The Rolls Royce of rods which according to a well known carp angler on another site is the only rod he uses now has he says it do' all 3 funtions admirably. Or is he just promoting rod because he's sponsored by Daiwa. Altough he says he would have used rod regardless of bieng sponsored by maker. Because I'm not interested in fishing more than one rod at a time at the moment. iget into enough just fishing one rod. So i thought 3 cheap rod's would come £250 £300 .1 could get the daiwa infinity X for less than that.& when thats paid for if i like it, get another one next year. Also what line Make/b/s etc i can use only mono line do i use on the big pits I was looking at 12 lbs for clearwater&15lbs for snaggy swims i'd like to try some distance fishing in the future thats why iv'e got the Big Pits.Theres that much out there i thought i'd ask the grass roots angler's that use the line rather than take the opinion of the net carp colmnists who may just promoting a product because there sponsored by them .

It was way back in 2000 that i ist logged on Anglers Net i found it by typing in fishing in the uk &have enjoyed evey minute of it since. Keep up the good work

With bread.I use a hook as large as the fishery allows hook, just pinch the bread flake round hook shank This will hold it nicely. With corn just bury hook in for 2/3 piece thread the 1st 2 over hook &up hooklink put 3 rd on as descibed then pull other down to meet them, a no 10 fits nicely in 1 kernal of corn. With meat, i as large an hook as fishery allows i use a piece of dry spaghetti break into small pieces about 12m/m -15 m/m long or if no spaghetti a blade of grass will do . i prefer not to use cubes i just break a piece of the block. push hook straight through , turn 90 degrees put small piece of spaghetti in bend &pull hook back till hook holds A single caster will hold a 16 hook nicely start off by inserting point of hook in round end then gradually turn hook round till hook is totally buried.A tip with casters wash them off,when you get them home . you'll always get some floaters putin seperate box use these for the hook.Put them back in a plastic bag squeeze air out put i pint in 2/3 pint maggot box fill with water this will help keep them from turning to quick .when on bank keep caster.'s in shade &always keep them covered in water.This what work's for me you'll probably get other ways posted as well try them all &choose what suits you out of them . with worm' s i always hoOk them twice .Then put maggot,corn. either side to stop worm wriggling off hook. hope this helps
