The word memoirs for Spikes writing about his Army days in St Leonards, Africa and Italy isn't truly correct. Admittedly he served in those places but don't believe all you read in the books though. My father, who is mentioned in "Rommel Gunner Who" always told us that Spike had a wonderful imagination, but most of the stories are just that. Loosely based on fact. But they are hilariously funny and I always enjoy reading them.

It is with sad regret that I have heard of the death of Spike Milligan My father served in the Royal Artillery, with Spike, during the war. In fact when my father first entered hospital after a stroke Spike rang the hospital to enquire after his progress. For that one act he has had my family’s affection. Rest in Peace Spike.

Learnt to touch type in the Army. Passed a course typing at 50 words per minute, but that was on an old style typewriter. Can do 60+ if pushed, but then I cannot guarantee accuracy. Thank god for spell check.
