    Sport or Hobby

Must say, I see sport as a physical, competetive thing that involves getting excercise. I guess a half mile walk with more gear than you need gets the blood pumping a bit, but to me, angling is not sport in the pure sense of the word. It is certainly more than a hobby though. My Wife thinks it is an addiction or obsession. For me, angling extends to browsing in tackle shops and jumble sales, choosing holiday venues, making floats and groundbait mixes. For each hour on the bank, I probably spend another reading, dreaming, scouting waters or talking to other anglers. Not simply a sport, perhaps my Wife is right. Cheers. Adrian

  3. Poledark, Yes, I would give my support to shooting.I am not a fox hunt lover, but see that sport as the 'front line'. The antis seem to think they have won that battle and are at the second line (shooting). How long till they reach us?. Phone. Perhaps they will get round to banning F****** as well!. Must be a chance of it, after all, it is enjoyed by a lot of people and will be one of the few pleasures left to us.They want to ban evrything else. Best go do some now, while its still legal! goodnight. Adrian

  5. Hi. Quote Daily Telegraph today "The league against cruel sports is proposing to amend its constitution to commit itself explicitly to campaigning to ban shooting" Complete the phrase, Huntin' Shootin' F******. Support for Hunters against the Antis was a divisive issue. How do you stand on this latest development? Are we kidding ourselves if we think we are not next? Adrian

    Hook tiers

Lopz I use a Matchman. When tying hook to traceline I put the spool between my knees, keeping the line taught, I do not cut the hook length off till the hook is tied. To tie to reel line, tighten the drag, put rod in rest, or support over whatever is handy. You then have two hands free. Practice makes perfect with these tiers, dont forget to wet the knot either. Good luck. Adrian

  11. Er, I think 'greed' was invented pre Thatcher. The TUC practiced it regularly, remember the power black outs, (non greedy/ selfish power workers), the rubbish in the streets and unburied bodies (benevolent Council workers),The boats full of rotting goods in the London docks (charitible dockers, so greedy and stupid they struck their jobs away). And all this happened under a govt so incompetent we had to go begging to the I.M.F for a bale out, like a banana republic. Good to see I.D.S is an angler though. Adrian

  13. ajp. Thanks for the info. I did stop by briefly and saw a big rubber thing being towed by a speedboat. A couple of Anglers reckoned the upside of the disturbance was that it gave the water some colour. I fancied the lake as I fish Hucklesbrook next door, but that is 'no guests'. I have a Christchurch ticket and am therefore OK personally, but I was looking for a general stillwater for the kids, especially if they bring a friend.Somewhere not carp dominated and not so overstocked it will be too easy. Any ideas? Cheers, Adrian
