  1. jarkm Youre not going to catch many bream in the upper Ant in the summer. The river is too shallow and there will be too many boats. If youre in the area stick to Barton broad fish the edge of the boat channels early morning and you will have a good mixed catch. Tight lines

  3. Chris Youre obviously doing a great job. In my area the otter was hunted to extinction. I wonder why. Was it a protected animal then. I think Izaak got his way. Also may I remind you that cormorants are protected birds. As I said before people will take a chance and take the law into there own hands. And as there was no information given that otters were about to be released did they take the law into there own hands. Of course they did. They were hunted before and will be again I,m sorry but thats how it is.

  5. Thank to Chris Burt for such a well informed letter. I,m glad I brought the problem up. It just goes to show from the above how some people dont know the problems otters can cause. The main one being the distance they can travel during the night for food(5 miles have been recorded). Yes I do know the size of carp they can kill from first hand experience. I also know that they can weigh well over 20 lbs. (9kgs plus). Imagine how much food an animal that size needs to sustain itself. Once again thanks to all and I,m glad to know that some agreement is forthcoming THE SHARK!!!!!

  7. Ron stubbs says it all. Too many otters in too small an area. Make no mistake otters will make inroads into fishstock. When it comes to affecting commercial fishery owners income they will take action in the same way as they do with cormorants. Let me just say that I have only reported this and had nothing to do with the demise of any otters.

  9. I ,m told 16 otters were released in South Norfolk. 7 have been caught. 2 were laid on the steps of the front door of the office of the trust who released them. We have certainly had no more trouble. The above being recent overheard conversations at a recent match.

  11. Quite agree its the last thing we want F&M with regard to our sport. However it must be pointed out that farmers were moving stock without licence in the beginning and shot themselves in the foot. Forgive the pun!!!! [ 28 February 2002, 12:03 AM: Message edited by: sharky ]

  19. Thanks for the replies gents. Unfortunatly I can report they are a major problem. We find scales on the bank 2/3 times a week. Where they drag the fish out and descale it before eating it. Sometimes big scales from carp. We are loosing big fish.
