  1. Good effort Bayleaf on catching the above - that 10lb 12oz Chub of yours last season must have pulled?

Hi Chris - not commented for a while but I'd like to say your blogs are top-drawer - an inspiration. Only Rusty's compete. Please keeps us all envious for many seasons to come - cheers Gazza
  3. Well done Rusty - (i'm just building up to my 15 posts)
  4. Hey Rusty - Glad to see your back and well done with the bread. Judging this bag-full it looks as if the rest, in your scribing at least, has been worthwhile. Not sure if it were my comments you were on about when I saw you wading a few weeks back but if so I'm glad the flattery worked. How did the rest of the day go - Is that where you experience the magic of your Hovis? Think I mentioned about creating a blog myself but wasn't able to - you mentioned a number of PMs?? Anyway look forward to your next entry - chrs Gazza

What a cracking session - a real Red Letter Morning. Very envious indeed I must say I look forward to reading your excellent bloggs Chris. I have recently moved to Newbury and they make me realise what a hot-bed of a river I have access to - all I need to do is find some time to get to the river bank!!!!. What you caught today would be my perfect day - trotting for a bag of chub and a few whiskers. Obviously I understand that want to keep location of this prime swim under wraps but could you tell if it is owned by Newbury Angling? I'm not at all familiar to the Newbury run of the Kennet and I'm trying to identify some decent stretches that are reasonably accessable whether in be free or licenced. If you have a good advice and do not want to reply in open forum pls contact garyfreer@stingrayltd.com.
  8. Please keep up the excellent work with the blog. V informative. C&B - Chub and Barbel - sorry. Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a go. As you say there are only really a couple of noteable swims. I like the look of the one where the brook meets the river. You any joy there? I've also noticed that the free stretch runs up to and just past the library - have you any luck there? Regards, Gazza
  9. Thanks Rusty. Oh yes I've read your blog and I'm keen do to do some homework - keep up the good work You've obviously had some success there in the past. Some chap told me over the weekend about some swims opposite the pub just over the white footbridge - have you ever fished those??
  10. Moved to Newbury a couple of years ago and have decided to brush the dust off my 1970's Mitchell Match and do some fishing again after a 20 year break. I'm looking for some tips and advise about fishing the free stretches of the Kennet that run through Newbury's town centre. I've taken a good look at the Northcroft backwater and have indeed read some articles on this site about people's experiences fishing the weir pool etc. and it seems a like a decent stretch. I've given it a go, albeit for an odd hour here and there, but with no success I've tried mainly legering with bread/worms hoping to pick up Chub. Preferably I like to float fish but conditions of late have not been favourable. Can anyone recommend any productive swims using this method - basically looking to pick up Chub and if really lucky a stray barbel. I see 'Rusty' and Mr Plumb have fished this stretch. BTW - Avid reader of Mr Plumb's blog - very envious of bags of C&B.. Cheers Gazza
