  1. Perfect Norfolk Rob. Think we'll be having the Korum 2 rod quiver.
  2. Looking at buying one of these. Seems ideal for my purposes as it's a 10-15 minute walk to a couple of rivers or the canal for me. Takes 2 rods, bank sticks, and umbrella for about 20 quid. Does anyone have one? Can them comment on the comfort of carrying, and durability of the construction materials? Many thanks
  3. Personal preference is for a bit of choice. The Preston Sentient has just gone out of production. You should be able to pick up one of them secondhand 13 with a 2 extention, for 80 quid, from one of the tackle tarts who is upgrading. I've got one. Amazing rod for that money, maybe not so clever at the full 250 quid RRP. The best rod I've ever used.
  4. Arrived in Newbury late last year. It's all new to me, so it's beginners luck. Or, my ability to interrogate every person I see on the bank with a rod. We've probably met! Next year, when I've done the free bits to death, I'll sort out a Newbury ticket as I live out Speen way.
  5. Decent Roach have been coming out of the free sections of the Kennet and the canal in Newbury. A month ago I thought I'd got a red letter day, but the 4 biggest ALL came in at 1-14, following weekend I got one 2-2. I can also vouch for a 3-1 coming out of the Thatcham AA section behind B&Q in the same session as 2 more 2s to the same rod. And that's all I'm saying
  6. I use an Image Canal Waggler rod. Weighs nothing and beautifully made. Got it off E-bay. Tip bends nicely on a 2oz Dace, and bends all the way through to the bottom of the butt. I've landed 7lb Bream and 5lb Chub. Great pity they don't make them anymore. A "wand" is a 9-10 foot ledger rod.
  7. Been in Newbury about a year, living within walking distance of Northcroft, so it's all new to me. In fact, I'm returning to fishing after my employer sent me to Barcelona for 3 years (I must have done something REALLY bad for that posting), and also health problems stopped me going back to racing yachts. I've fished that weirpool on a float a few times, loads of dace, roach, and a couple of 3lb chub. I use a Insight (Harrison) 1lb 6oz Avon rod, big float, and just let it go wherever, mainly use bread flake. I'll try maggot and worm when the dace disappear later in the year. Going to try a maggot feeder next time, just to see. Saturday I fished the canal. 3 hours, fished caster, fed caster, caught 20 odd roach to 1.25lb, and 4 bream to 2lb, but lost 2 bream 4-5lb at the net, when the hooks straightened(cr*ppy Drennan hooks to nylon). Note to self, Saturday, buy stronger hooks. Anyway the highlight of the day was walking back. A dad and his 2 kids were fishing the swim on the south side next to the bridge, The kids had Poundland 5' rod/reel combinations bought that morning, the eldest kid (about 6) had just caught a 2lb chub on float fished bread. He couldn't smile wide enough. Dog knows how he landed. One kid hooked on fishing for life. I hadn't the heart to explain that it won't happen every day Soon I must sort out a NAA ticket, and get onto Hambridge and Speen Moors. I've been rich. and I've been poor. Rich is better.
