  1. BUSHWACKER, As you say everyone has their own opinion, if I gave my opinion of those that fish through the close seaon or when fish are "unclean" on this site I would be banned. I cant comment on whether carp or tench will take a bait when spawning as I dont fish for them but i have seen anglers put a baited hook over carp that were spawning, only look out for the huge catch reports from the river Swale in the early part of next season. Two years ago (the river was closed last year for F&M ) on "angler" was quoted in Angling Times as saying, after retaining over 200lb of chub in a keepnet for over 12 hours," I think the fish must still have been spawning as at times I was catching them without a bait on the hook" I say no more on the matter.

  5. It is an offence to fish for "unclean" fish, in or out of season. The simple answer is,if the fish are about to spawn or are recovering from the process, return them as quikly as possible, without the extra stress of being weighed,or do as you should do, dont fish!

  7. I was unloading my tackle from my car for a few hours fishing on the last day of the season when another angler pulls up in the car park. Out comes his tackle, rod holdall with about 10 rods, 2 giant bags with god knows what in them, a continental box with about 56lb of scafolding, and.....a motorised tackle trolly. How much did the trolly cost I asked, £300-00 says he, bloody hell I thought, thats worth more than all my tackle AND my car! After about an hour he was heading for home, fishless.

  9. Up to this year rivers in the southern area of the old Northumbria region had no bait restrictions imposed on them during the coarse close season, with "anglers fishing for trout" with any bait and method, at times they would struggle to carry the buckets of hemp that they intended to use for the trout. However they were never very happy when they caught trout. Fortunately from the start of this close season the only bait that is allowed is worm and shrimp, although I would have been happier with a total bait ban then there would be no argument for anyone caught "trout" fishing. But, as they say, one step at a time. As it has taken over 20 years to get so far, I suppose that I should be happy that the EA now recognize that coarse fish do exist in the regions rivers.
