  1. To be honest you stand a tiny chance of a positive outcome, it's probably not worth the stress and hassle of challenging the findings.

Jeepster, I think your right, I'm just getting wound up everytime I think about it. Maybe it's healthier to just try and forget it.

I was talking to a trainee Barrister the other day and he said the uk border force was only started about two years ago and meant to control immigrants coming into the uk. He went on to say they where just a rush job for this purpose and have now got ideas above their station and are interfeering in other buisness they really shouldn't be involved in.

It seems totally out of order that they can just steal perfectly legal property for no reason appart from trying to justify them keeping their jobs !

Thank's to everyone who's tryed to advise.

  2. Well, I've just had a letter back from the UK Border agency after sending them a letter asking for my knife back and explaing in it that the knife is NOT a flick/gravity knife and also enclosing a photo copy of a shop selling the knife online in the uk (one of many)as a example to show there not illegal here in the uk. They replied saying that the knife is illegal and any shops selling it in the uk are doing so illegally ! There not giving it back to me! If I want to continue I've got to get a solicitor and go to court in London ! To say the least I'm very

  3. You're right on most counts Tigger, I've just checked and my 6lb Crystal isn't as thin as 2lb mono but it is lower diameter than 6lb Sensor so I'll have to take that as being an advantage. I guess if you want higher BS Crystal that you wouldn't normally buy unless the diameter claims were accurate then yes it's a bit of a b@gger.

The visibility I think is an advantage for trotting, I bought it because I couldn't see the green Power Pro when I needed to make adjustments to the line.

I'd give it a try first.

Rusty, if no one wants it then I'll most likely finnish up trying it out sometime. In the future though I'll be sticking to sensor in 4 and 6lb for most of my trotting. It just does nothing for me whatsoever but I suppose for some it might suite them perfectly.

  4. I've just received a spool of the stuff this morning and in all honesty I wish i hadn't bothered getting it. Well that's my first impression. Rather than feeling smooth it feels gritty to me and has the same feel as very fine wire. I also think someones got the diameter wrong as it looks much thicker than stated. I got 10lb, rated as being the same diameter as 4lb mono. When I put it next to 4lb mono it looked like a thick peice of white string. Regarding being invisable in water, well to me it's about as invisable as white cotton and not translucent at all.

If anyone wants to buy a spool cheap mines for sale.

  5. The breaking strain is based on knot strength (grinner knot) according to the blurb. Earlier in the topic Chris P said it breaks above its stated BS.

I've just been looking at mine before I stick some on the pin and there are a couple of little 'bobbly' bits - almost as if it's been blobbed by a lighter...is this a bad thing...?

That doesn't sound to good does it ? Power pro was smooth without knobles etc. I know it's a different make but I would have thought the braids are meant to be smooth. Maybe Chris Plumb can tell you if it's normal.

Are the blobbs all along the line?

  6. Blimey looks like I may be able to contribute with some real experience of catching fish.

I've caught Barbel and Chub of about 4 1/2 pound trotting with braid and just a mono hooklength, it didn't feel as if any more cushioning was needed. The rod was a 14' Drennan float rod so that would've helped.

Plumbers will be along in a minute to trump my 'achievements'. :D

Where they hit and hold stretches of river or could you give and take line Rusty ?

  7. Never found it to be a problem. The only stretch I have in my set up is a short length of mono I actually build the rig on and the mono hook length. The float is always on the braid so both the line doesnt get drowned and in case of a snag I always get the float back. I think the fine forgiving tip on the match rod stops this.

You may well be right Budgie. I never had a problem using power pro and a 18inch bottom attached via a micro swivel when fishing for grayling. Thing is that was in quite a large open river and obviously the fish weren't exactly monsters so I don't know if fishing for larger fish using braid with virtually no stretch in hit and hold type spots will possibly cause hook pulls.....it just crossed my mind, but I'm most likely talkin through my crack LOL.

  8. have a look at the pheasant tail duckers under the stillwater section at my website, they are so simple to make you could do it yourself.

Yes George they are similar. I might just have a go at making one..........doubt it though :D

I've not got much patience at the best of times :)

  9. I never used it and can see that it may be good for roach, dace, small chub etc with a light rod, but for big chub with an Avon rod?

I look forward to hearing how you get on with it, especially if its at close range on your small rivers.

If using a fixed spool I reckon the drag would need setting pretty slack to compensate for the lack of line stretch(buffer) to help stop hook pulls.

  10. Which floats on andy's site is it that you like as he has 3 different types that sounds like the ones you mention?

The drift beaters and the pheasnt tail antennas caught my eye, I think they could be used for slider floats perfectly.

  11. I do know the type you mean Ian, andy batchelor has some on his website, which are similar to the ones you mention

    Andy Batchelor

You just got to know where to look ;)

Yes, there are some lovely lookin floats there George. Do you have to buy the box sets or can you buy individual floats off him ?

  12. Tigger, don't Drennan do something like that called "The Driftbeater"?

Yeah they do Toady, Middy also do one called a drift combatter and I have both but I like the look of the one's I told George about, John Wilson used them in one of his programmes where he had a bumper catch of specimine bream float fishing from a boat on a secret gravel pit (jammy bugger). There are some Ultra slider floats on the bay also but they just don't look as appealing to me.

  13. George, those Duckers look similar to a slider float (still water float). I like the slider floats I told you about made for John Wilson by the chap who you said was sadly now dead. They where painted orange/red at the tip and black and white under the tip (like a pelican crossing signal post). Have you seen the type I mean ?

  14. On Sunday I went to my local river for a fish, looking for some elusive Graying and Roach but endured a biteless day. I spoke to the other Anglers on the river and they too had been unable to find any fish. Some put this down to snow melt or the heavy rain from the night before. Does anyone know which view is correct or have any tips for fishing these conditions?

I'd say it's the cold snow melt that's the problen as the rain water should be quite warm in comparison and when the snow melts gone then the rain should help warm up the rivers and maybe get the fish lookin for some jack bit.

  15. Im more of a traditionalist and prefer quill avons with the traditional shaped body of thin at the ends and deeper in the middle :)

I just don't like the bent stem of the feather and the pointed top. I like a straight stem and top the same thickness to the end rather than tapering like a feather does if you know what I mean.

I suppose eventually I'll get some off yourself and give then a go :)
