  1. There's been zander in the Trent, Soar, and surrounding pits for many years, so I wouldn't worry. Biggest I've seen is 6lb but I've heard reports of 10lb fish.
  2. Cheers Dan, I haven't been up there this year yet but I know it usually suffers quite badly with algae over the summer. I suspect it may be quite bad this year with the recent warm spell.
  3. Anyone been to Rudyard Lake in Staffs lately ? Is it suffering from lots of green algae this year ?
  4. We have proper lifejackets, flare packs, GPS, and mobiles, but no radio. Thanks for the opinions and advice. Now I need to find some suitable sheltered venues. PS, It's 13ft, not that the extra 12" makes much difference
  5. I have quite a bit of experience fishing large inland lakes from my boat but fancy trying a bit of sea fishing. I was wondering if a 4 metre Orkney Dory with a 25hp engine is considered large enough to use safely around harbours and possibly upto 1 mile offshore in calm conditions. Mainly intend to lurefishing for mackrel, pollack, bass, etc. Thanks for any opinions.
  6. Richard, I'm not sure which season you're refering to but the coarse angling season on rivers runs from mid June through to mid March. I think the game season is approx March/April through to October/November(ish). Whilst I support greater access for all water users I don't think there are any months when the rivers don't have fishermen on the banks. *Edit* I see this has already been mentioned earlier, sorry for repeating it. Must read more carefully.
  7. I agree Nemo, whilst I don't want to see every bit of water open to canoes/yaks I think the access as it stands is a joke. In the rest of the world anglers and canoeists seem to manage well enough (most of the time) with both pastimes having far greater access to the waterways than we have here.
  8. You're correct, I phrased it wrongly, what I meant to write was that canoeists have access at present to around 1% of total waterways in England & Wales.
  9. As the issue of canoeing access has raised some debate on various forums over the last few days what are your feelings on the subject, should canoeists in England & Wales have more access to rivers than they presently have (around 1% of navigable waterways) or will it be at too much of a cost to angling ? As a fisherman and a kayaker (often at the same time) I have mixed feelings, there are some great bits of my local rivers that I'd love to fish from the yak if access were to be granted. On the otherhand convoys of noisy kayakers would really pee me off when I'm fishing. As yak fishermen how do you feel about greater access for canoes/kayaks.
  10. Decent quality fly rod suitable for pike wanted, ideally #9 or #10 weight, 9 foot, 3 or 4 piece.
  11. Is Ad's book available now ? Last time I asked I was told it would be April/May time.
  12. I had a couple of their #10 lines, the sinker was pretty muck OK for the money but I didn't like the floater at all, lots of memory and very thick compared with other 9 & 10 weight floaters I've used.
