  1. Slightly off subject I know but if you want slugs for chubbing just put down a plate of best bitter. According to my Landscaper; just had the garden done; slugs love a pint and they all get in the plate and get sh*t faced. You just pick them up and once they've sobered up make extremely good bait.
  2. I've got a couple of JW Avon Quivers. Not the 3 tip ones but the older 2 tips, 1 Avon Tip, one quiver tip, and they are excellent rods. The first one I bought had locking reel seats which are crap. The 2nd one had regular reel seats which are much better. They obviously learnt. I have had both tods for about 8 years and they are still in very good nick. I like the JW rod range and also bought a 12ft float rod. Matching green blank with brown whippings (ooohher missus). Very light and nice action.

  4. Used to belong to Alders and have fished all their waters. My favourite lake was the trout lake and had some nice carp to floating baits. Although the Big Lake has some great fish I didn't really enjoy it. I found it a featurless expanse of water. The Ford Lake is very pretty and although I never caught anything much that was more to do with the fact I never really worked at it. It does hold some excellent fish. The Medway can be difficult to fish with high banks but is still a good stretch with the usual crop of Medway fish. A very underated river by the way. The Beult is my favourite local river and I think always best fished from dusk to dawn. The Alders stretch is not one of the best I've fished. Quite shallow and a lot of slimey weed. Like all the Beult you will get about 6-8 weeks fishing in before the Duck Weed decends and no more fishing till October. You could also try joining Kingfisher who have a number of Carp lakes + stretches of the Beult and Medway and Rother. When I belonged to both and decided I could live with just 1 it was Kingfisher that got the vote. Their website address is http://www.kaps.supanet.com. Hope this helps.
  5. Don't the Polaris floats do basically the same. I have used them in deep water (and shallow) and invariably get "lift" bites. You do need to use quite heavy weights but I was assured by Polaris that the weight is irrelevant as the rig, once in the water, is so finely balanced that any activity at the business end will signify a bite. That said, I was fishing my local clubs pond the other evening and a good size Roach caused the float to lift and carp were dragging the float under.

  7. Thanks Tim but it is a bit of a trot. Also I am more interested in getting some tackle bargains in prep for the 16th; specifically a Bivvy so a conference on lures would not be much use I suspect.

  9. Any exhibitions coming up in the next couple of weeks. I've seen Peterboro', Coventry and Milton Keynes advertised but as I live in Kent, something more local would be useful. Used Tackle ad carries a "see you at Brands Hatch" banner but from doing a search on the site that looks like it was at Xmas. Any help would be much appreciated. This weekend would be perfect as 'er in doors has gone to The Canaries for the week so I could go for the whole weekend without fear of retribution!!!

  11. Just joined you chaps and seems likje a good way to start to post my 3 favourite waters. 1). Islamorada, Florida Keys. This time last year I was there for the first time and landed Tarpon up to 150lbs, Stingray to 90lbs and numerous sharks. All thanks to John Rawle, Essex Boy and skipper extrordinaire. 2). River Tees at Barnard Castle. Caught my first fish, small brown trout, on ledgered maggots at age 7 and that's what started it all. 3). River Beult at Hunton where I have many happy summer hours catching superb Tench and Bream amongst others.
