  1. Thanks for your help guys. I've got the remaining piece out easily enough. As it happens there was next to no glue holding it in, two light taps with a suitable drift and it dropped inside the blank and fell straight through.
  2. I would imagine that the type of worm used is not as important as presentation. Just my two-penneth worth.
  3. Hi folks, as the title says, I've snapped the spliced quiver off my John Wilson Avon/Quiver rod. It snapped right at the end of the blank. is there a way that I can remove the bit that's still stuck in the blank? Anyone got any idea what length the bit still in the blank might be and/or how it's fixed in there? Would rather not cut the blank shorter if I can help it, and would prefer not to try drilling it out either. Any thoughts ?
  4. You've got to be careful people. The grass snake (Natrix, natrix) is so heavily protected under the CAWA 1981. It's probably illegal to disturb them let alone pick them up, put them in a bucket etc and film them.
  5. I have witnessed this quite a few times over the years. On at least two occasions that I can recall, I have been cooling off in the Gt Ouse above Bedford (escaping the heat of the midsummer sun) standing in water up to my chin and been fortunate enough to have, on both occasions, an adult grass snake about a metre long, swim past me only a few feet from my face. It's really weird when you lower yourself further into the water, until both you and snake are on equal eye level. Quite an experience! I also had a grass snake for company in June this year whils bivvied up at my local lake.
  6. Does it have the date/numbers etched into the reel Foot?
  7. Thanks Guys, my reel certainly looks very similar to the 'Searcher', just a few subtle differences. Has anyone out there got one exactly the same as mine? Does anyone know that history of the manufacturer, or where I can find out about the production run of the 'Searcher'? Who actually made them? are they any good? (I know that there are better on the market) Can you still buy them new? if not, why did they stop making them? Any information would be welcome, thanks.
  8. Hi, can anyone out there help me to identify one of my centrepin reels? All I can tell you is I bought it new in a tackle shop somewhere in Kent in 1996-97 I can't remember what I paid for it. The only makers mark on it appears to be 11 96 scratched into the underside of the brass reel seat, whether this is a date or not I don't know. Does anyone recognise this reel, know who made it, what it may be worth? Cheers
