  1. Great report John. how well do you know the R. Yare as it leaves Norwich? I am going to recky Whittlingham lane tomorrow. Am fishing it on the 24th & I was wondering if you would like to join me there. I would like to meet you & what better reason than a session on a great river. ( sorry that sounds so lame, couldn't word it better). It would be nice to put a face to the exiting posts you put up. Either way that was a good weekend you had, well done. Any reply appreciated & thanks Mark.
  2. I am going for a look at Whittlingham lane tomorrow, (4th July). The site map shows a carpark at eastern end. See site map at ;- (http://www.tournorfolk.co.uk/whitlingham.html). So only a short walk to river. I am also waiting for the EA to reply as well to confirm fishing on R Yare is permitted there, as now there are problems further along at Bramerton. If ok, I will report back tomorrow evening. Would anyone like a ' meet you' fishing session there on Sunday 24th July, as 'Tacklefest' is on the 23rd at Peterborough? Low boat traffic & hopefully good weather. Any replies appreciated & any company welcome. Thanks mark
  3. Thanks for the replies. I am now considering getting 2 tripods & put my buzz bars on them, as they are adjustable as well. It will allow me to set them further apart & support the rods better. Have found a web site doing them for between £7 & £12 each, cheaper & giving more setup variation than a pod. See - http://12gco2.co.uk/ - good prices alround. Seems a wrong adress but it does connect. Thanks again Mark
  4. My rod pod has stripped it's thread between legs & centre bar. It turns out it had plastic inserted thread to screw legs to, well it got knocked & they ripped out. hoping to spend no more thgan £40 if poss on a 3 new 3 rod system, usable on a fishing platform as well. Are there any good 2nd hand tackle sites or cheap new ones you can advise me on. Dont mind if it is alloy or steel, just so long as ALL threads are metal. Thanks Mark.
  5. Sportsman - check company email. reply at your leisure as no rush. Thanks.
  6. I thankyou for your honest replies. I admit I could have worded it better. It would have been a selection of 30+ particles, but know see it would not work. I do appreciate your pleasure in mixing at the bankside, I would not want to take that away. As an idea it seemed good, as a business it now seems doomed to fail. So thanks again for your honest replies. The forum works again.
  7. This thread is to get your thoughts on my idea My idea is to cut out the prep on the bank by doing it all for you. With a selection of 30+ seperate ingredients to choose from, you order what recipe you want & it will be either for collection or delivered direct to you. All fully prepared for use, we will even add any liquids to soak in during transport, for that extra touch. All you will have do is open the bag & use. I aim to keep pricing as low as possible & prepared baits as fresh as they can be. I will have 1, 2, 5, & 10 kg bags so you can order the weight you want. The plan is to have a website which allows you to register, for free, as a customer, to get a customer number , then view the ingredients list & make your own mix. This we will then, log to you for future reference & prepare for you, for collection or delivery. So as you can see there is a wide range of recipes to get you the best mix for each water you fish or species you target. I hope this gives you the basic plan & I await your replies with thanks. Even if you justr read this & don't want to reply, please just say wether or not you like the idea & would consider using it..
  8. Ian has been planning this for a few years. I dont know if he got a grant as EDDA has gone. The lakes were planned for the farm about 4 yrs ago. before I moved from village. The river Gadder is a feeder for the R.Wissey, it flows gently along more the size of a country stream than a wide river. there is an average head of fish as it has shallows at either end of village by bridges, leaving a rather long deep area between. to have the lakes off of thif would mean that the water feeding thewm will be crystal & very clean. How that will affect the fishing once open we will have to wait & see.
  9. Apparently there is now a marina @ Cantley. I dont know the exact details as not been there lately. I used to fish from the corner nearest the dyke. (pub to far right). Pictures & report to follow when I get the chance. Have also been thinking of Whittlingham lane at the eastern end, to fish the bend in R. Yare. I will be scouting it out on Friday & will post details on return in seperate thread. Google earth 52 37 14 77N 1 21 05 70 E, take a look & see what you think. Woodbastwick now sorted, car park stays dry. Path & pags is also wire mesh over wood for whole length. Well as far as I have walked. Sorry from me as well for hyjacking thread. When do you hope to write next report?
  10. Thanks for your reply to my thread. Have read & enjoyed this report. I have this year joined NDAA for broads fishing @ £21 for the year. They have a varied & fruitful waters. See http://www.ndaa.org.uk/ Although there is no night fishing, the dawn to duck hrs make for good fishing. But you will need to be there at dawn, before the boats start. I was at 'Woodbastwick' oppersite bank to the Ferry Inn at Horning. First time on river for years & lost loads as could not hit ever bite on just 2 rods. Good bag (in my eyes) of roach, dace, perch & bream. Smashed by a huge 'broads' pike, taking maggots. Lost a good bream as it touched the rim of landing net. You say you would like to fish the year, have you concidered the 'Worlds WEnd' pub stretch ( Google earth @ 53 36 20 26 N 1 22 54 64 E). Good access, wide river, good visability of boats. When I last fished there it was good sport once you found them. Hope this helps & would love to meet you there sometime. How would you feel about a friendly member's weekend? Does anyone know how 'Cantley' is fishing after the marina work was completed, as it used to be a great bream water?
  11. Am I getting old, as I can remember when you could just stroll up to any river & set-up knowing it was free. I also remember that most waters were alive with fish, blanking was so rare. I recently went back to my childhood water only to find it with it's banks overgrown, paths obstructed & the water itself very shallower than I can remember it ever was, I learnt to swin there & can now walk across by using the weeds. There were no trotting swims left, all I could see was the odd hole where you could drop a float in.How many previously classic waters have been lost? Are now un-fishable or require a good raking before you can even see the bottom for the weed, or have banks so overgrown you need a machette to get through. You know what I mean, how many waters or stretches can you list as destroyed, lost, polluted & now un-fishable?
  12. Could anyone advise me of a low boat traffic, free river location for a 3-5 day session? I am just returning to river fishing & would like a location to stay at & get some practice in.
  13. I have started this season by giving up on carp & returning to real fishing. I want to actually catch fish this year, already had a cracking start, by my standard. I actually caught fish, firsy in years. Q1) Anyway I am trying to find a river location to spend a few days at, mainly to get back in the rythm of river fishing. Any suggestions please. Somewhere out of the way so not to busy? Q2) can anyone tell me if it is possible to access, River Wensum under where the A47 bypass (Trowse junction) joins Martineau lane by Old Lakenham? Always driven over it & wondered how it fishes. Thanks for all replies.
  14. Day 1 Horning What a day. 6am. Marina entrance peg. (I want that peg again) Weather Clouded over, warm & dry, wind light from the west (behind me), very light shower mid morning( didn't need brolly), Showers turning to rain after 1pm. Set rods up for ledgering with sliding lead, nothing. Switched to Maggot feeder & bang, (thought before'why 2 rod limit), I could only find time to cast out one rod then bait second rod, only to have to retrieve first rod, 1lb roach. Cast second rod & same again, 2lb perch. Missed a lot/ lost a lot, but it was strke one then the other for nearly 3 hrs, exhausting. I eventually had to stop casting just to allow me to breathe & bait both rods. Thought that should do it, how wrong I was, casted first rod, turned to second rod & bang first rod went. Even had the dreaded double take, hence why I lost so many. Leaving second rod on bank, (feeder emptying on my feet), brought in other rod 1lb (yes 1lb) dace, casted out second rod & once again bang before I could bait up other rod. It was like that for nearly 3 hrs. Lost a good bream (5-7lb), just as it felt the rim of landing net. 10min fight then loose it at 10' out, sick. As I look out from peg - Roach / dace to left & 3/4 way across river, Perch right in front of marina entrance & bream to trhe far right. Tench bubbling under rod tip but not biting. I took the maggot, worms, mixer & breadcrumb, only needed the maggots. Will try casting PVA bags of maggots to start them feeding next time, 20 - 30 minutes before I cast out. 9am The boats started moving, everything went dead for a while, but slowly came back after an hour. I nearly lost 2 rods through boats to close to bank, 1 rod was tip smashsed, although each time they say the same " sorry didn't see you" they were that close I could have jumped on board, (that is an argument for another time). Nothing could spoil my day today, ended up with just over 20lb of really healthy fish, Perch, roach & dace. My bigget smash was from a20lb+ pike on maggots as well, all I saw was the huge mouth bite through the line & then the side as it swam away. Just hjow hungry can they be? More in one morning that 3 yrs on carp lakes. Must be there for first light next time to get 5-6 hrs in before boats start. Today's tackle Rod 1 - 13' quiver tip Rod 10' stiff action(but bending every bite) Line 6lb mono Maggot feders (6 gone) Hooks 12 loose tied direct Hooks 10 to mylon used as back up. Bait 1 pint reds & 1 pint whites.(egg cup full left) Shopping list 6lb line on 2 reels(stripped by boats- good tip keep a sharp blade or scissors very close). New rod tip Maggot feeders( all taken by boats) Minimum 6 pints maggots(3 red & 3 white) More hooks sz 10 & 12(full of maggots & being taken in) Another shot dispenser ( all used relacing boat smashes)
  15. Day 1 report. Got to start at just passed 6am ( left here at 04.30). Water flat calm & appeared slow on surface, very strong under current, over cast but warm & dry. Set up with 2 x ledger rigs, nothing happened. changed to mixed magots & maggot feeder, bang bang bang, first cast on feeder - 1lb roach,( caught before nets set up, so released with thanks). re-set rod, cast out again, 1 minute later 2nd rod went mad. 1 1/2 bl perch, (eventually), while reeling in, 1st rod went again, landed the perch & grabbed 2nd rod. Another 1lb+ roach. Re-set 1st rod & cast out. turned to reset 2nd rod & bang. 1st rod had gone again, 2lb perch. That's how it was for 3hrs, til 9am. Did hook a large bream(estimated at 5lb), was bring it in (fighting all the way), taking 10mins? Saw it surface at about 10ft out, lowered landing net, (feeling great now), presented net to fish (while praising my self), fish touched net rim & (you're right), splash & gone. Evenutally landing a 20lb mix of - Roach, perch & even a couple of 1lb dace, (yes 1lb). funny thing is :- when I reacted to bites, bigest fight casme from the smaller fish, large fish nearlt goit to bank beforer running. Thought several times I had missed take & was just retieving tackle, till they got close. Perch were the best fighters, even had tench bubbling just under rod tip, but no luck there today. My first river session of nearly 15 yrs, til the boats woke up & the traffic built up around 09.30. Then all went quiet. final result - boats 4 line smashes & 1 rod tip. More tackle to buy as 2 reels stripped. Usuall reply " sorry didn't see you" ( from less than a rod length out. ) Had to grab rods & cut line 3 times. Broke 1 rod tip section, but it can't dmapen my day. Will I go back- to bloody right I will, but at 4am next time to get the time in. After blanking on carp lake for 3 yrs, it's nice to smell like a fish factoey again. Line 6lb, hooks 10/12 to nylon & tied direct, maggot feeder large, (2 pint of mixed just lasted), casting to 3/4 distance. Emmediately found a shoal of roach, dace & perch. Bream just the one, they seemed s bit nervouse. as regards conditiion of fish so soon after spawning - perfect, size, colour & weight. Left just after 1pm as heavy rain started, got into car as it poured down, timmed that right then. A great day. Need to take 6 pints next time, no action on worms today.
  16. I would like that very much :D . Love swapping exagerated stories . Weather looking ok, light showers so not not to sunny, just nice. Will post pics of any good fish. I wouldnt like to drive the lane at night, bet that would be spooky as so narrow. But lovely spot once you are there. How does the entry to the marina fish from that bank usually? I guess the boat traffic stirs up the bottom all the time, making it easy feeding for the fish & hides the line in the cloud. Dont know about you but wish I was there already. Always know when I've had a good day, still got some cigs left at end of day, slow hard days & I tend to smoke too much. On the best days I still have an unopened lunch, nowadays those days are few & far apart. I will be there quite often, as fed up with blanking at lakes supposed to be full of carp . Am giving up on carp from now on. I would also like to find a good spot for a weekend session. Prehaps we could meet then. Next entry will be my report. thanks again Mark.
  17. Scouted it today, took a while to find the right road,(forgot sat nav). Surface full of fry, traffic not to bad & it is NDAA. As new member, £21, but how much would a season of day ticket cost? Water has plenty of colour & not running to fast when I was there. Should be going Thursday, so will post catch report that evening. Really looking forward to it now. Iguess my report will help you plan your tactics for next week. Have a good holiday. Mark.
  18. Thanks for the reply & great infomation. Not that it makes much difference, but which end would you fish? the road end or the far end, With the flow I should think the far end would give more varied swims. Oh well answering my own questions now. I have emailed NDAA for day permit details, thanks for the link. Have a good season yourself. Thanks again Mark.
  19. I am planning to open new season at Horning, norfolk, on Saturday. My plan is to fish from the (west) bank oppersite the 'ferry pub'. Can anyone give details please. the stock level as good now as it used to be?
