  1. i good few years ago in staffs and worcester canal near me a local aquarium center which backs directly on to canal side managed to spill/lose a delivery of piranha in to canal!!! they didn't last long maybe a week or so it was summer so that helped them. don't know if they got many fish but it was in the loacal rag that a few anglers caught some
  2. Hi all thanks to a mate of mine who gave me a load of his old fishing gear (couple of rods-12ft match rod and a 14ft carp, mat, landing net a few floats and other bits) last spring i took up a bit of fishing and went at it with plenty of gusto going out a few times trying different methods i had read about in magazines and online. Living in Stourport i have plenty of access to different fisheries, staffs worcs canal, rivers severn and stour i've done float fishing on the canal with maggot, corn and could see plenty of fish, but no takes so i'm not sure if i was doing it quite right? should the maggots of been dangling their? how far from bottom etc? i reckon i got it down to about 6 inch from bottom i know of a small 'weir' pool area on stour which to me looks a great spot to fish it's very deep at the point the river flows in to this pool, my amateur attempts at gauging the depth were around 11-15ft , and having spoken to people i know it's got fish in it to catch, i've only seen a brown trout in it, about 8 inches long, but i know it contains jack pike, carp, perch, roach and at times salmon. it's quite a fast flowing and turbulent stretch of water. I've tried all sorts in here, but it's very very snaggy so really frustrating and lost many a lure and a couple of feeders. further down from here is a slower stretch where i tried float and a small feeder with maggot i was happy with how i fished this, casting up stream slightly and letting the current wash it down till it settled, i had a bite on this and it took line but i don't think i strked at the right time, too soon or late i'm not sure but nothing on hook. but will try this area again. also going to try upstream of the pool my only two fish i have caught were on the severn a really greedy little perch that took my spinner in one go taking all three hooks in the process and a couple of weeks later a bit further upstream, where the stour meets the severn i had a much larger perch also on a spinner, i have been told it was a very good size fish of maybe 2lbs ( i don't have scales yet) i recently bought my self a spinning rod and reel but no luck with it yet (was using my 12ft match rod before) So i'm looking for any tips or advice any of you kind folks could give me and what i'm doing wrong or right and how i can catch more fish as i really enjoy what i have done so far but i want to catch fish
