  1. can any of you in-depth knowledge angers tell me what the clear drennan pike floats are made of? PET PE PP HDPE Or any other pike floats-- and don't say simply plastic Thanks peeps! T;o)
  2. thank you chesters! By just playing around with motors and batteries i have found 1XAAA battery powers a standard 9 or 3v motor (need to find out) to a slow speed required. Added torque applied has also provided resistance to slow it. My only concern now is how long a 1X AAA battery would last? If 2 batteries are required I could simply put a fat resister in the connection and hopefully have the same speed etc. Would 1X AAA batter in the conditions said last long? Thanks guys!! T ;o)
  3. Dear Sir/Madam, Can anyone tell me what type of small motor would best suit a slow spinning motion.... about the rpm of a record player on fast speed. Can you control the speed on a standard 9v small motor to turn slower? Best Regards T ;o)
  4. do any of you guys know if (PIR) motion sensors are responsive to the heat and movement of water? For example i am wanting to put a PIR motion sensor audio alarm on a platform in the middle of a pond and would like to know if the ripples and fluxuating heat range of water would set them off? Or can you change the sensitivity/detection so it wont detect water ripples and only sudden radiation increases of heat (ie: man/pet)? Cheers all T;o)
  5. Hi fisher people! Can anyone confirm/tell me what is the best shape pike float for holding bait in a position on a lake? 1.))Is a longer weighted shape better? Im sure it is but can you just confirm this pls. Thanks T ;o0
  6. Hi guys! Some of you may know from my previous posts that I am doing a Uni project on designing a bird scarer for use in your swim when you are/have baited your swim (boilies). Im thinking about different techniques used and those that havent been used to scare birds. Can i ask if you think an: 1.) audio alarm on a float would scare fish? 2.) flash/strobe on a float would scare fish? 3.) wheather the 2 mentioned would annoy the other anglers? 4.)or would considerations like the depth of the water being fished means it would not be sufficient to scare them or if so--- not much anyway. 5.) can you think of any natural methods used by animals and such that are interresting or could be incorporated? eg: a particular frog when threatened inflates its croaking sack- this could be incorporated by use of inflating balloon on the float-- triggered by PIR motion sensor. Skunk squirts smells at you. Limas spit- water ejection/pistol method on float with use with motion sensor?? Any thoughts--feel free to let loose! Thanks guys Tatiana ;o)
  7. Can anyone give me anumber for the percentage/number of fishermen that participate in: game sea specialist (carp/pike etc) coarse a guess possibly guys? Cheers Tatianna ;o)
  8. To all that have replied to my posing queston-- Thank you very much!! Some really interresting view points. As it stands I think my tutor is pushing towards the bird scarer because : -The value of the problem is of high importance for many anglers (according to questionnaires) -The application could as mentioned be used for other applications- pond, land, water, who knows even airport. So potential possibilities... - There is no such product on the market for use during angling. -Good expression for product testing and development (opportunity to gain more points/marks for thorough risk assessment) But nothing is fianl so far, so keep the opinions on the other concepts still coming. can anyone suggest any links for the areas of bird scaring, bird psychology, example scarers, your EXPERIENCE OF bird scaring? That would be fab!! Ok guys, cheers!! Tatiana ;o)
  9. Im doing a uni project for fishing equipment designand would like to hear everyones opinion on the 6 ideas I've had. Which one of the following sounds like it would sell good if a product could be made for what it is described to do: P.S- forget form and function its the value of the problem and product i am interrested in. 1.) Bird Scarer- a product device that scared birds during, after baiting swims-(aimed at boilie baiting. 2.) Adjustable Modular Trolley- this could accomadate various transformations from a basic trolley into a barow, attachments for wheelchair anglers(pull along chariot)and basically adapt to different scenerios with a selection of basic standard parts. 3.) Weighing Net Scales- the scales a re tubular and screwed onto the landing net pole and then the net screwed to that. This reduces the time of the fish is out of the water and is quicker because of no transfering the fish. 4.) Modular Alarm- this could have a security motion sensor that can be added to a basic £20.00 alarm and be set before you go to sleep-- reducing theft of your expensive equipment and basically tells you if someone/thing is outside. This could also be used after use for storage of equipment- plug it in the mains and the device continues to motion sense. What other possibilities-- data log book; when the alarm goes off it registers the date, time of run, moon phase etc.. do you like any aspects of these suggestions? Your feed back would be great!! 10. Hi people! Can I ask if anyone can put me in contact with any wheelchair fishermen- (e-mail, addy, association?). I ask this because I am keen to ask them a few questions for my Uni project on fishing tackle design. Or if you know a person and their difficulties, could you explain these--great! Cheers guys! T ;o)
  11. What a great story. For people who can't understand the addiction of fishing, they should read this. Well done Hollywood!! T ;o)
  12. I particulary enjoyed the series Chris Yates and Bob James did a while back at Remire Pool. I thought it was great the way they respected the fish seeing them as "ancient friends" and really brought the whole romance and essence that fishing should be about. Like school kids at times they added a sense of excitement. So yes, incase you hadn't noticed I liked this one )) Do more like this! T ;o)
  13. HERES A REVIEW A GUY POSTED ON A SITE: Farlow's Lake On the 20th of June our club's monthly match descended on Farlows Lake off the M25 near to Heathrow. This lake has a reputation as a specimen carp venue but Stewart Lister had fished it in winter and said it had loads of silver fish, and would make a good match venue. Some people were sceptical but Stewart knows his stuff. We were pegged along the motorway bank with a couple of extra pegs by the clubhouse. Most of the pegs are out into the main part of the lake in open water but I was not so lucky, as when I got to my peg it was in a little offshoot of the main lake, full of reeds. It looked fishy but I just knew it would be lumps or nothing. I tackled up with tight 12 elastic, 0.14 straight through to a 16 Preston's PR21. I potted in some casters and corn over to the reeds and a little bit more in the small amount of open water I had. Nothing doing in the open water after thirty minutes, so I slipped a couple of casters on and went over to the reeds. The float settled and then disappeared, and before I knew it ten feet of 12 elastic was intertwined in a lovely pattern through the reeds. I pulled as hard as I could but made absolutely no impression on what was obviously a large carp or a small submarine. Fish 1 Me 0. This particularly annoying trend continued for longer than I care to write about. I would hook them and they would bugger off along the reed line, smash my rig and I would sort out another rig only for the same thing to happen again. I did get a few fish out including a tench over 5lb and a Crucian Carp of 3lb 13oz 8 drams which is possibly a club record. I had no really heavy gear with me and in hindsight it probably wouldn't have done me any good, as they were in the reeds before you knew it and they were obviously very big fish. It became a bit of a battle of wits in the end, as I refused to give up, but the fish won hands down. I ended up with 16lb, which was nowhere. 60lb of bream won the match caught by Gary Rolfe on sweetcorn on the tip. The backing weights were impressive as well so if you have a club match and you're local to Farlows, give it a go, you will not be disappointed. T ;o)
  14. Im amazed with all these responses nobobys said about a crussian carp of 20lb. They're all muscle! A 20lb er --now thats a monsta. T ;o)
