    Tixall Wide

Hi folks thanks for the comments folks - though have to say Tixall is more of a lake than a canal. When the canal was built the owner of the land, a vip and NIMBY of the time, objected to a common trade route running through his property. To placate hin the canal was widened out to appear more like an ornamental lake. Len

  3. Hi folks, anyone fished, have info on Tixall Wide on the Staffs and Worcs Canal;Species, day tickets ect. We'll be around the area next week and it looks too good a spot to miss. TIA Len
  4. Hi, We've been there several times, Summer hols time and week in October. Being on hols with the family means snatched moments - but have managed tench to 7lbs. And have lost count of the perch. Summer Also pike to 15lbs, drifted dead bait, and 12lbs on lure. October. Have seen caught 30lbs carp and 10lbs bream - but these by committed (and they should have been )anglers. Out all day with the family and then bivvied up overnight! I wouldn't class it as an easy water by a long chalk. I think they allow too much in the way of boillies fired into the centre of the lake thereby drawing the fish away from the margins. That said there are areas where a carefully places sub-surface floating bait (Flippin' ducks  ) can work its magic You don't even need the car to get into York. Stroll up to the supermarket and a very regular shuttle bus service drops you in the centre. All in all a great place for a family hol, especially if swmbo can drive! And the last time we were there, the car floodlit footie match for the kids!! I've never seen anyone sailing or boarding on the lake though Neil occasionally rows off out to plant some reeds here and there. It is quiet, well kept and we're going back this summer But you do need to book early - it fills up quickly. Len
