I'm in Southampton and have fished Moorhen, there are quite a few carp in there. I've not had one on a fly from there but I have from other local lakes, even a t6ench once. A friend of mine catches quite a few by getting them going on dog biscuits then using a spun deer hair artificial.

I use homemade braided loops, I put them on with a bit of superglue but don't use the sleeve. I put a whipping over the line end bit, trim off the fluff then varnish it. Very neat and it ain't coming off.

Sharkskin or Hardware or something from Sportfish with Scierra felt sole boots work for me, in Switzerland recently I was practically mountaineering in them! For proof there's an embarrasing video of me on www.bamboorods.ch
