  1. The incessant rain, the resultant mud and indifferent fish are enough to put anyone off fishing. I'm happy to fish in the rain as long as I can set up and pack up in the dry. Cold and dry is acceptable and I look foward to having a go.

  2. Just got back from France and it was raining on the approach and hasn't stopped. I nearly turned back. It's grey

, miserable, wet but not cold. Anyway I'm only here till next week and then it's a week in Dubai. It's cool there now at 33c.

  3. Talking mud,I had some bullies out over the fields yesterday and after a couple of miles walking in all the mix of mud and cow shyte we all needed a washing off when I got home!

The ever enthusiastic bullies weren't put off by the mud and enjoyed every moutthful of green sloppy cow shyte....you would think they were starved at home!

They do like to drink the puddle of green water that forms on the top of the cow pats!

That's put me off my tea; I feel sick nowxat the thought of it lol

  4. I looked at a boat for sale the other day. Now they are a money pit and only for the wealthy. The one behind yours truly was for sale at £900,000. I could have just afforded the tender. Most of these boats in Antibes rarely move so are a waste of money but a big status symbol. Might be good fishing from one though.

  5. Your first link John relates to Baitcasters proper which cast significant distances in sea or fresh water but admittedly with a heavy lure above 3/8ths oz. They are very light in weight around 210g as opposed to multipliers.

The second link relates to classic multipliers for sea fishing. The third link relates I think to closed face reels like the Abu 506 and 507.

It's the Baitcasters in link 1 I'm interested in. They have various drags including the thumb to prevent or at least reduce birds nests. The Shimano ree I referred to has a digital computerised drag supposed to virtually eliminate birds nests as it detects the reducing velocity of the lure and applies a drag equivalent to your thumb.

I am going to respool my Abu Silvermax with braid and give that a try on the sea. I was interested in people's view of the Shimano DC reel.

  6. I wonder how many members own one these and use it regularly. I have an Abu which is right handed and I've never really mastered it. Being an idiot I often forget to reset the magnetic and normal drag when changing lures if significant weight differences are involved.

I think a left handed reel would suit me better ie you cast with your right hand( one handed) and reel in with your left hand as I do normally with a fixed spool reel. At the moment I cast with my right hand and arm but switch to my left to reel in.

Shimano have brought out a digital electrical drag system on their Curado Baitcasters to prevent( supposedly) birds nests on an overrun and whilst I've read mixed reports on them, i wonder if anyone has used one. Phone may have greater knowledge of these reels as they are very popular across the pond.
