  1. Had my first fish last night in Weymouth Harbour! Round about the 2lb -2/2lb mark. Had about two hours fishing in the evening and had them feeding off the top stright away! I used a carp controller float and floating bread. Took the fish right in the middle of the bay striaght off the top just as the light was fading. Whats that 2-1 then Paul I am on your tail!
  2. I had a bash yesterday had a small bass on bread in Weymouth harbour. Baited an area up earlier in the day and went back to it and saw a mullet hovering it all up on the bottom in about 3 feet of water. Cast my float out to the fish and let my bait sit on the bottom! The fish picked up that bread and took off unfortuately missed the fish! Saw a few fish occasionally taking on the surface in the evening! Had a couple of little bites but still can't seem to contact! Would have been great to hook up with that fish that I had picked out though! Proves they must be just starting to feed on the bread though! Going out in a boat today to some well known mullet marks on the breakwater! Anyone remember John Wilsons mullet programme? Well that is where I am going today!
  3. Had my first bash today! Saw hundreds of mullet down in Weymouth Harbour today. I think most of them were thin lips as they had the usual long and thin look to them. I think I saw a couple of fish have a go at a bit of bread on the top but they were very tentative bites. I had one really good bite but it was just a dam crab! Trying again in the week if the weather is good! Nice to know they are there though!
  4. Excellent Paul! One ahead before I even got my rod out. I am down there tonight to have my first go! I had to take the summer off last year to train for a major Mr Great Britin title(which I did win!)and compete in the USA. This year I am not competing so I am going to hit the mullet fishing big time! Did you take the fish on high or low water? What level were the fish feeding? Earlier first fish than last year than!
  5. Followed some the advice from Paul last year from his site that was very useful but I did find I caught most of my fish last year striaght off the top with floating crust! Isn't one off the top suppose to be worth 4 underneath? Well I must of caught six off the top last year can you give me 24 for those then Paul? Going to try and beat you on numbers this year got a whole summer ahead of me!
  6. looked in the harbour at Weymouth yesterday. Not a thing? Last year they were at least here even if they were not feeding?
  7. really nice weather the last couple of days I bet that water temp is coming up nicely now! Shouldn't be long now!
  8. Nothing in Weymouth yet! Went down last week to have a look but couldn't see a thing. Getting a small boat this year to get me out to the breakwater to fish as well! It will be great to get out to those marks where P.C Libbey caught that huge 10lb er a fair few years ago! Great to fish these marks away from all those anoying holiday makers to!
  9. Recokn it's a bit harder to hook them on a rod and line than it is to just to net them Jim. You want to try it some time!
  10. A bit early for the 4.3kilo fish Jim!! Joined Weymouth Angling Club on Friday. Mick Channon reckons you don't even fish for mullet is that true?
  11. Caught another 3/1/2lb mullet since my last post. Yes the last 4.5lb mullet did go back. I would have to be mad to eat them out of Weymouth Harbour! The only mullet I have not returned was in Spain when I had a load of Bulgian refuges all around me who looked like they were going to cut my thoat if I didn't give them the fish to eat. I did want to return the fish though! Well aware of the age of these fish and the fact that they are slow growing. Thankyou! Takes my running total to 7. I think I have chippy on quality rather than quanitity but maybe that's changed since the last time we spoke. What's your total now chippy!
  12. Took a 4.3 thick lipped on floating crust yesterday. Officially weighed at Weymouth Angliing Club. Takes my total for the season to 7. Think I am beating Mick Channon at the moment. Going again tonight!!!
  13. Caught 2 more thick lips since my last post. Takes my total to 5 for the season. Chasing Chippy he is on 7 at the moment! Hopefully catch some more today. Weather forecast is good!
  14. Hooked my third mullet of the season about 3lb this evening. Caught it about two hours after high tide in a place shown to me by Mike Channon. Caught on waggler about 5 feet down. Had about 6 bites before connecting with the fish!
  15. My speeling's terrible should have read "your right Jim"
  16. Sorry Jim your write Mike Channon. Only met him twice. Fished with him yesterday he lost a fish about 2 1/2lb. Using Floating crust on the surface had plenty of good bites as well. He is a mountain of knowledge when it comes to mullet fishing think I am going to hang around him for a while! Helped me loads already! Unfortuately he has not got a computer but I will keep you posted how we do!
  17. Fished Weymouth Harbour had about 3 bites the whole session! Hope it gets better than this! Spoke to a guy who holds the mullet trophy at Weymouth for the last 3-4 years. Mike Chalmers anyone know him?
  18. Caught my second mullet of the season yesterday at about 4.00pm about 1/1/2lb's on a low tide. I had about 4-5 missed bite before connecting with this fish! Nice day yesterday as well really hot for the time of year.
  19. Caught my first mullet of the season only about 1Ib but it was a start. Caught it on a low tide with a shoal that I managed to get feeding on a little floating crust. Got two bites missd the first and hit the second. What was funny was a had baited an area all day without a bite. Moved down the harbour a bit where I located the shoal throw out a few crust's and caught the fish after only about 10 minutes! Where's the logic in that! Bites seem little and far between only really had those two bites all day! Most of the mullet seemed to be about 30-40 yards in the middle of the harbour. What sort of floats can you use when the mullet are that far out. I tried a small carp float but don't think it was sensitive enough to detect bites. Also couldn't get my ground bait out enough to them maybe I should invest in a catapult? Does anyone else use one?
  20. Plenty of mullet in Weymouth Harbour. There is literally thousands when I arrived at my usual spot yesterday. They were feeding on bread as well! Missed a couple of bites on the waggler but really should have tried floating crust. As they were taking like crazy on the surface. Unfortuately my baiting seem to attract ducks from the whole area and it was game over for me! Thanks to Chippy for all the advice I should get my first mullet soon!!!
  21. Fished Weymouth Harbour 3 times now but to no avil. Shoals of big mullet cruising the surfaces feeding on the surface film but no interest in bread! I will keep trying and keep you posted.
