  1. Thanks, I've alot more reading to do before I venture out yet, but this should do for a starting point. Cheers
  2. As the weather seems to be on the turn, I'd like to try some pike fishing. I've caught them before unintentionally, but not to any notable size. Could any of you lads recommend the standard kit, i.e. traces, rigs, line etc for say, static deadbaiting on Stillwater’s, or know of a good tutorial/web page for such?

    Trolleys

I've always used a trolley for my gear and I don't take my house and home with me either. I've plumbed for a Penrose model with tyres instead of the 'Golf cart' style wheels. I've come to the conclusion that the tipping problem is to do with the unforgiving nature of the wheels on my existing trolley which stop dead whenever a tree root is encountered. I've personally avoided barrows as if I ever get to the stage of taking that much gear with me then, being a bit of a traditionalist I would think something was wrong. After all for me, fishing is about catching and enjoying the surroundings and not a camping expedition. Lugging your 150lbs of gear in a glorified wheel barrow, only to sit on your £300 bed chair trying to re-hydrate a beef pot noodle in the dark with luke warm water, would quite frankly put me off fishing altogether. There are institutions where you are required to route march over rugged terrain with a heavy pack, and it's called the army!

    Trolleys

Yes trolleys, and I don't mean my pants. It's time to retire the old matchman club trolley as I can't stand dragging that squeaky aluminium piece of **** around any longer. I mean the thing is always tipping over whenever it hits the slightest slope or smallest stump, not to mention it folding up whenever I strap my gear on. I'm not really after a barrow as such, just a good strong replacement for the coat hanger with wheels. Can any of you gents recommend a good one? I've looked at all the tackle sites and I've noted a few from Penrose, but they want about £70 and the things only plated which I think is a bit of a rip off. Any recommendations?
  5. No, the subject line is not an old blues musician but a question I have. I've just joined a local club whose waters are absolute quality. Well maintained, and the quality of the fish is near perfect. The waters I fish are large Stillwater’s where carp and tench seem to predominate. The only slight drawback to this is that boilies are banned. That in itself is not a bad thing as all of the local disaffected youth, intent on ruining other peoples enjoyment stay away in droves. The waters are quite hard fishing in the day, and conversely from the earlier thread of 'Natural baits', I wonder if you gents could suggest some good alternatives. I've tried the usual: Sweet corn, Maize, Maggots, worms, luncheon meat, pellet, bread etc and wondered if there were any suggestions. I read an article about using potato that had been cut with a bread punch, par boiled and then coloured and flavoured in the usual way to great effect, anybody have an idiots guide for this?
  6. I ordered some new gear from Bobco tackle two weeks ago and have not even had a sniff of a delivery date, they haven't even taken payment yet, or replyed to my enquires. It was a bit cheaper, granted, but I have to say it's not worth it when compared with the service, which is appalling. Won't be buying anything from them again.
  7. Hello all, just a quick one, What's the best way to use line clips? I understand that some anglers like to fish locked up, especially when fishing in weed beds so that when they get a take they're straight in control of the fish, but other than that what use are they really?
  8. Apologies all, just searched the archives and found the info I require, should have looked first.
  9. Can anyone recommend a good backlead method or system. I have never used one but would like to know how, and the pro's and con's that come with using them.
