I was steeling myself to put something up. Paul and I have fished together since we were teenagers - we met at school - a school which had its own fishing lakes - a lifelong friendship forged on the bankside. In the past 38 years we never missed the opening week of the season fishing together - even this summer with the illness starting to take its toll and with me carrying his gear the tradition was maintained.

 

Seeing your best mate wasting away in front of your eyes has been devastating and his decline over the last couple of months has been particularly rapid. However, I'm still numb with grief.

 

Rest in Peace, Paul.

Despite the somewhat serious expression, I really was very pleased with the fish. No, extremely pleased. No, ecstatic!

 

It's just that the fish was so bloody heavy & I was straining a little ;-)

 

A PB by slightly over 6lb - & over 30 years in the making!

 

Still on a bloody great high after a truly fantastic day ;-)
