Ok so the holiday to Greece is out of the way; just a week at work to get through but my mind is really on it, yup the glorious 16th beckons (& the 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th..... ). Permits have been bought, bait preparation has begun and the house once again reeks of steaming hemp (& the garage of monster crab ).
Weather forecasts are being consulted hourly and plans changed and changed again almost as often. Tackle has been checked, hooks tied, and the Purist as been reverentially cleaned and oiled. The diary and spreadsheets are prepared, awaiting entries of truimph (hopefully)and tribulations (probably).
I'm in my 42 year yet I still feel like a kid at Christmas?

Well I'm just back form a week in Rhodes - missed a lot of the games but I have to say USAvPortugal was most entertaining (even with Greek commentary). We missed the Argentina game (out touring the island) but coming back to see fans hiring taxis just so they could drive around waving the cross of St George we kinda guessed we'd done alright!!

I've been fishing since the age of 3½ (!). My angling diary goes back to 1970 - I started it when I was nine. (I'll let you do the math )

Surprised Steve Randalls hasn't pointed out his animation of the lift method - so I will for him.

I think I've said this before Martin Salter is my MP (Reading West) although I've no expereince of him answering e-mails he has responded very promptly whenever I've written to him. He IS genuinely a keen angler and I spent half an hour chatting to him on the banks of the Kennet at the back end of last season.
Try dropping him a letter or a fax (and cc-ing your local rag - works for me!!)

I was 3½ (honest!) My dad would cast out and hand the rod to me to reel in when the float went under - landed 7 roach. But the real adventure of being awoken in the middle of the night - being collected in the first light of a summers morning and driving to some secluded lough (we lived in Belfast at the time) - was HUGHLY exciting.

Yup - gotta be a river - never the same when you return - always keeps you guessing, never know what'll be next to bury your float.

I tend to put on 100m as well for the same reason as Nigel get very little problem with bedding in 'specially on a fast stretch.

Was a bit dodgy a few years back - they now have a couple of 'secure' compounds at Pingewood and Farnham Flint Pit. Parking aint free though - will cost you 20 quid for a parking season plus a fiver deposit for the high security key. Still beats having your car nicked....
