  1. Peter - I said I attempted to Wallis cast - didn't say I'd mastered it (which I aint) And I never fish a water where there's a need to cast very far...

As for line guards I guess its what you're used to. I've always used C/P's with them on - or the option of having one on which I've used. Never used one without for long enough to make a fair comparison.

So no help at all with your question!! :D

Well done with your bargain - don't know anyone with a Plowman or a Witcher they want to give a good home to? - I promise to use it and am willing to pay double what you paid!! :D:D:D

  2. Well you can't Wallis cast with one on. Personally, I prefer them and have one on my Purist. With my 15 foot Harrison I rarely fish a venue where I need to attempt a Wallis.

    (£4.50 for a Stanton - that's some bargain - did you beat hime down from a fiver :D )

  4. Being a sceptic I was hoping we'd come up with some 'concrete evidence' on this one. Plenty more enecdotal stuff which seems to support the hypothesis that predator fish have some sort of anticoagulant - but search as I might I still can't find any scientific evidence to support these suppositions.

Doesn't anyone KNOW for sure either way?? Sounds like it might make a good project for some undergrad....

  6. Obsession, passion, calling, something that is in your bones, a thought, an image, a desire that you carry with you at all times; the wish to go a-fishing is all these things. It is a longing to be at one with nature, to pit your wits against that which is unseen or if it is seen; to partake of ‘a perpetual series of occasions for hope’. It is an urge to enjoy hours of incessant expectation whilst on the bank and to dream of past triumphs when you are not.

Sport, hobby, pastime; doesn't even come close... :)

  8. From Meridan (Southern News) Web site this morning...

"The Environment Agency is cracking down on anglers caught fishing without a rod licence in Kent and Sussex this Bank Holiday Weekend. Funds from licence fees are used to help restore fisheries, re-stock rivers and improve

riverside habitats. The agency says angling without a licence will land you in court with heavy fines and costs."

Though of course you've all got yours - haven't you??

  10. Not spotted it???

Its perhaps not so easy to do on screen so you might want to print off the image for the full effect - but invert the picture and cover the head and the hand holding the glass with the palm of your hand - now can you see?? :D

It does rather beg the question - who goes around looking at pictures cropped and upside down in Yellow Pages.....??

  12. Found It!!

More national recognition for Elton!! One of only nine sites reviewed this is what appeared in the Connected section of the Business News of Tues April 16th...

All kinds of fishing advice, including the all new Carp Clinic, run by the NHS (Nautical Help Service). Fishy jokes aside, the website has an enourmous amount of information provided by enthusiasts, covering product reviews, types of fish and places to buy equipment."

Elton - If you mail me your home address I'll send you the clipping if you'd like it.

  14. Well I had a thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours yesterday evening having a jolly good browse - it felt a bit like being able to handle the exhibits in a museum - particularly some of the really early stuff - one book was from 1554 - beautifully bound but all in Latin.

Apparently the game books went for a premium at the first sale but the coarse books went quite cheaply. I left a few bids on a Sheringham, a couple of Ransome's, a BB and a Richard Walker - can't wait to find out if I'll get any...

Elton - I mentioned AN - the auctioneer said he got in touch with you after seeing a review of the site in the Telegraph a few weeks back...

  15. I do feel for you (No, really I do!!) The Play-Offs are just such a bl**dy lottery. Still I'm looking forward to my lot (who very nearly blew it just as spectacularly!) playing your lot at the Mad Stad next year...

  17. If they profiled the sample accurately it's actually quite a large sample - about twice as large a sample that someone like Gallup would use for predicting General Election results.

But I AM remind of the famous quote (was it by Churchill?)..

'There are lies, damned lies and statistics!'
