It won't be hard to find - tis the swim in my cover pic!
-
No - today's hotspot was fished from dry land - though the first swim is now impossible without waders due to a fallen willow bough - will be bringing a saw when I next come here!
-
I thought that - eye looks a bit 'funny'.
-
Agree - don't think they get stocked this big - the small ones (of around 14oz+) I caught last Sep were much more typical of the sized they get stocked at...

Heron or cormorant - heron would be my bet!

NICE crucian! Though only cads catch crucians on the feeder!

. Do you think your boys will do well this year?
Be happy NOT to have a relegation battle - desperately short of players ATM - and have a transfer ban slapped on us by EFL for infringing FFP rules last season (lucky not to get a points deductions apparently!). Lost a couple of our best youngsters in the close season - one to Palace the other to Bayern Munich - and both our main strikers are injured (one likely for most of the season). Thankfully we've had a strong academy for a number of years - but even so haven't been able to field full squads in our 2 EFL fixtures so far!

Sorry to have hijacked your post, Chris.
S'OK - I do remember the 87/88 2nd round Littlewoods Cup game. I was at Elm Park for the first leg which we won 3-1, losing at Stamford Bridge 3-2 to go through on aggregate. Think we got to the 4th round losing to Bradford City in a replay. Twas our season for cup competitions though as we won the Simod Cup final in '88 beating Luton (who were top flight in those days) 4-1 in the final. (Simod Cup was a 'replacement' competition as all English clubs were banned from European competition at the time following the Heysel disaster.)

If the 25lb haul was made up of just 2 or 3 fish then yes!!!!

Ah, a fellow superbloo, excellent.
Yup - season ticket holder since the mid-80s. Mrs P has had a season ticket since 1971 - and (claim to fame) bought the very first seats when the Mad Stad started selling season tickets!

In bed by 0300 and up at 0900 - so nearly a full night's sleep! Thankfully the day got better as it was off to see RFC win their first home match of the season!
-
PM incoming! There had been a match earlier that day - which I was told was won with 17lb - presumbly of tench and bream from a peg on the railway bank. (The chap I was chatting to waved his hand in the general direction of Peg 8.) Not sure there were many 'back-up' weights to this. On the subject of the combination lock - I think the club should make it available to members through the forum or FB page - both of which are restricted to members only. It won't be long before committee members turn off their mobiles at night in order to get some shut eye (and I can't say I blame them!)
-
If you look at the size of the tail and the fact they can use the current to their advantage by turning their flanks into it - it's no wonder they can put up a bit of a fight!
-
Nah - the knack is to ONLY be on the bank for B! 4 hours at the 'right' time is better than 10 hours at the wrong...
-
Never tried artificial maggots - and don't think I have much confidence - like to think a bit of wriggling attracts the fish. And yes I'd be interested too - though I paniced when I pulled into the car park that the match was on still - car park was rammed - thankfully someone was just leaving and was able to jump into their space. All of them were for Willows - I was the only one on Alders! Twas a bright day yesterday so conventional wisdom would suggest the match might have been won with low weights!
-
Thanks - a bonkers evening's angling - bit of a 'Mr Castwell' session - cast out to same spot, float cocks, float dips, strike, yet another 2lb crucian, repeat!. And yes sneaking into bed at 0145 was a lot better than getting home bleary eyed at 0700 which is what usually happens when I come here for an evening/night!

And in the dim and distant past I once penned this for a now long dufunct website....

Bonkers in this heat - I had an evening river sesh planned for this week but bottled it!
-
If you're on the river at dusk (especially Brimpton or Hambridge) - I'd say you were pretty much guaranteed to see an otter....
-
YES - pretty much ONLY fish close to the lillies on Alders - and I think alot of the 'liners' etc are down to the signals!
-
Yeah - a 'par' return for the venue - though I do wonder if their are 2 bream shoals - the 4lb average size that I seem to attract and the 5lbers that you've banked recently!

Aye - and there's at least one big 'crucian' in Willows with dubious parentage - most of it looks OK - but it has a fan-tail! I've caught it 3 or 4 timers over the years always at about 2lb 2oz ±1 or 2 oz...

Good question - I took 2 pints - but had quite a bit left so probably used 1¼-1½pints. I feed both swims quite liberally to start - had problems with bleak back in July - but they weren't around in quite the same numbers this time around....
