  1. Very famous local fishmongers - been selling coarse fish for the pot as long as I can remember - certainly as far back as the early 70's - would ALWAYS stop by when ever I was in town as a kid as they would often have a big pike in the window! (Reading has had a large Polish community for a long time - which I guess helped their trade - it will certainly be full of carp at this time of year - a traditional Christmas dish in Poland!)

  2. The last ever Waterlog landed on my door mat today - end of an era - sob! Thankfully, Fallons Angler appears to have spotted the gap in the market - and will be taking up the slack from now on!

  3. Had an automatic Windows 10 upgrade over the weekend - and now Edge won't load. Seems a common problem looking on line but none of the suggested 'fixes' have worked for me. I know I can use Chrome (or another browser) but I had 1000s of favourites bookmarked in Edge - so suddenly not having access to them is is bloody irritating to say the least!!!

  4. Remember the 'good' ole days of Woolies fishing tackle???

Tomorrow will see a rare outing for one of my oldest rods - my first carbon fibre rod, a Winfield Matchmaster 12' Carbon Match rod. I remember vividly that it cost me the princely sum of £35 - a lot of money, which took a lot of saving and paper rounds as I recall - but I'm trying to recall the year I bought it. I 'think' it was around 1977/78 - but this seems a little early for carbon??? Were Woolies stocking Carbon fibre match rods in the late 70's - or am I mistaken??

  5. Very little free or DT water on the Kennet - and none of it particularly easy.

Barton Court is the most obvious choice - see:

    http://www.riverkennet.co.uk/coarse_fishing.html

Lots of water so you have to find the fish but chub, roach, perch and grayling are realistic targets as are quality dace. Aldermaston Mill is the only other DT of note - but that's a pale shadow of what it used to be.

Newbury has free fishing through the town centre - some very big chub - but you'll be plagued by wildfowl (they get fed by the locals - but the chub also enjoy a bonanza). Also some free fishing on the Lambourn in Newbury - if you fancy catching a grayling or two...
