  1. Has anybody tried the Picol'Eau sandeel type lures. The blurb sounds good but they are not cheap! Thanks
  2. No, Salen as in Ardnamurchan but thanks for the redirection!
  3. We used to loose fish on a regular basis so as a last resort we strung some electrified wire round the pond. This seemed to work on till we came home one day to find the pond full of debris stirred up from the bottom, a great dint in the floating pond weed in the middle and not a sign of any fish. 3 days later the fish began to come out of hiding and the pond began to clear after having had to clean out the filters several times. Believe it or not we did not seem to have lost any fish. We now have the electrified wire strung across the pond and not lost any fish since. As an added bonus it seems to have kept the local cat population out of the garden also.
  4. Hi All, Not been on here for quite a while. I've missed reading all your posts. Could anybody tell me which are the best areas and what we might possibly catch (rock fishing or small boat) 1st 2 weeks in May. We will be staying near Salen. Many thanks
  5. Could anybody give me some advice on shore/rock fishing Loch Fyne in June Thanks
  6. This time I have the right Ian We have just come back from staying near Port Patrick. We had a fantastic half days fishing with Ian Cerexhe of Portpatrick Charters. After a few contact problems, ie lack of mobile signal, we went out with him last Thurs from Portpatrick and headed North towards Killantringan Lighthouse. What fantastic conditions for complete novices. Not a cloud in the sky and not a breath of wind, very occasional slight swell after the navy or the ferry had been past miles away! Ian was so helpfull, and we (well I) were in to fish straight away. Couple of pollack for starters then tea. ie 4 mackerel for the barbie. After that it was just constant with enough time to admire the scenery. The tally included 6 haddock (now in the freezer), coley, dog fish, saith, whiting and gurnard nmaking a species total of 8. We had heard about Ian from one of the coast guards who had been down to the beach. He said he was one of their lads and was very keen on safety and the boat was well maintained. This was obviouse as soon as we steped on board even to the extent of showing us how to call in a mayday.... if he fell overboard etc. May seem a bit "overboard" (excuse the pun) to you out there who are experienced boat anglers but to a complete novice, even on a totally calm day the knowledge that he took safety so seriously was reassuring. So finally, a very big Thank You to Ian we will certainy book you again if in the area. If any body wants his contact detail please pm me ( I assume I am not allowed to post those on here though he has ok'ed it)
  7. Sorry wrong Ian, my fault. I should have looked at the photos a bit closer! I was so keen to look at the postings when we got home I did not read them properly. It was actually Ian from Portpatrick Charters we went with, Can't remember his surname at present.... sorry for the confusion
  8. So that's why he was not free Friday pm. We were supposed to be going out with him on Saturday am but he had to cancell.... it got a bit windy. We were out with him earlier in the week. 6 species inc 4 mackerel and 5 haddock which we ate/froze. Guess I don't need to do the advertising bit... You have said it all Tack4. Thanks Ian for a good trip. We will be sure to look you up again if in the neighbourhood. Thats if you can put up with us again!? Sorry we did not get in touch Tack4.... "somebody" forgot the contact details and info "he" had printed off before we left home. Thanks for all you help anyway.
  9. I do hope it is going to improve!!?
  10. Not wanting to feel totally thick I googled "roker" and came across this site. Gave me some food for thought www.fishonline.org I expect most of you know of it but it makes interesting reading

    Help

Don't worry, I do but not everybody does and some people obviously get upset. Unless you are a commercial fisherman angling is a HOBBY (or sometimes an obsession) and should be FUN. By the way, thanks for your help also

    Help

You know if everybody, well some of you, would just stop your petty squabbles and grow up this forum would be fantastic. I asked for help and advice recently. I am very conscious of the fact that all I can do is ask and not help others.... my knowledge is insignificant. Within a few hours I had advice and within a few days a surprise package arrived which is wonderful. What other forum can a 2 week a year angler like me get that kind of kindness. Don't spoil the forum remember this is Anglers Net> Fishing CHAT > Sea Fishing..... note Chat NOT Attack. Many thanks to those who helped me........ Tack4 you have a pm
  13. Lucky begger having a caravan in a place like that.
  14. Thanks Tack4. Will pm you later.
