  1. Saw a few more OK's today near local shop. Frenzy, scrambler xt, caper on display but sadly no prowler. Tested the weight of the caper can lift it no problem so prowler 13' should be manageable. Guy showed me the standard OK backrest and said it can be better than the deluxe version as its stiffer? What type of backrest do the kayakers amongst us have? Was thinking of having a small matt to sit on.. came across this.. great product description! http://www.kayakfishingstuff.com/Merchant2...tegory_Code=sts [ 03. 2. Has anyone here had any experience with kayak drysuits? Was wondering if a kayak drysuit was a better idea than a thick (and less warm, restrictive) wetsuit for the winter months. [ 03. December 2004, 10:13 AM: Message edited by: Tony Wan ]
  3. Perhaps some kind of water cannon system could be used instead? demon
  4. How about airhorn/s for the kayak? http://www.top-gear.net/products.asp?u=629...8125&deptid=120 The Nautilus twin trumpet air horn perhaps?! lol

    Big Bass

Nice Bass.. would make many fish soup. -=Tony Wan=-
  6. The guy at Bournemouth Canoe centre mentioned that the color of the kayak was not as important as many would believe as once your out on the sea its easy for the kayak to be hidden by the waves regardless of colour, but that if you had flares, phone etc you should be ok! was a bit taken aback by this but if I went for a olive one with high visiblity paddles and jacket I should be alright? A green kayak would give me more a stealth option when I fish freshwater. Was reading a thread on this on a US forum yesterday and the point about being visible to other boats came up a few times and that a brightly colored paddle waved in the air seemed to work wonders at letting oncoming boats know where you are )
  7. Just wondering about the position of the rod holders on sea fishing kayaks... alot of pictures i have seen have two rods mounted either side of the paddler but back a bit.. can you see the both rod tips if facing forward?
  8. Was probably Simon I spoke to then as he mentioned he had a very interested buyer in that particular kayak when I was expressing my own interest. I asked him about the Scrambler XT which wasnt in stock and he said no problem he can order one in so I presume he'll be able to get the Prowler in too(or the any of the OK range)... atm just wondering if the 2005 edition is available but thats a question I'll ask when I'm ready to buy.
  9. Brighton Canoes doing 10% off this week.. they're linked up to the similar looking Bournemouth canoe site.. maybe same company http://www.sit-on-topes.co.uk/links.htm ...yak yak yak ;o) ok added an 'e' in my link [ 30. November 2004, 09:33 PM: Message edited by: Tony Wan ]
  10. Thanks for contact info.. I may have inadvertently spoken to Simon at Bournemouth Canoes last weekend. Popped in there to take a loooook... they had the Anglers edition, Caper there which looked good quality indeed... looked good in dark green (olive?), looked a bit 'short' for me though.
  11. Missed a few 'fundamental' items there such as compass, whistle & anchor lol how effective are the anchors btw? do they just slow down the drift of the kayak or keep it stationary? Yeah good news about no permit being needed for your area... need to get confirmation for my area as well (Dorset Stour and Avon ). -- ok no more editing ---- Tony Wans posting rate is going on the UP [ 30. 12. Yeah the 2005 edition of the prowler 13 looks good: http://www.oceankayak.com/Prowler13_Hotsheet.html Would you know if this edition would be available in the UK soon after it is launched? I guess I could contact OK direct about this. So...gear list would be as follows: kayak paddle wetsuit bouyancy jacket roofrack mobile phone/radio flare/s fishing gear ) ? oops forgot.. backrest & legstraps (what are leg/thigh straps for?) [ 30. 13. No problem Yakity ...Been reading up on canoe licences today... for a reasonable fee you can join the British Canoe Union which grants you a licence for many of the UKs waterways. www.bcu.org.uk
  14. I am planning to fish mostly sea and river occassionally. Just checked out the OK website.. they have a shorter version of their prowler...will surf around for more info on this model. http://www.oceankayak.com/anglers.html
  15. Yakity -- I'm 5' 11" & 12 3/4stone. Thanks for that info Salar, definitely helps forgot about permits for boats.
  16. hi Starvin Thanks for taking the time to make that post cleared a lot of things up for me. I guess if your going kayaking fishing during the winter time it may be better to stick to calmer waters such as estuaries and rivers where theres less chance of being thrown into the drink. [ 29. 17. Thanks for the reply Yakity Yak. Why are you becoming suscipious of me?! I thought my questions seemed reasonable. The "have kayak will paddle" 'question' was simply aimed at trying to provoke answers based around the freedom gained to the kayaker and where they can't and shouldn't go. Anyway have a few more I would like to put forward. Do you go out this time of year at all, or is it mainly a Spring/Summer thing? Do you ever fall off your kayak? What type of fishing gear do you use/take? I noticed a lot of the Americans often use short bass rods only 5ft or so in length with multipliers -- and also take a few rods with them too. Whats your thoughts regarding fishfinders? Worth the expense? Sounds like you have been kayak fishing for some time now if you now have two kayaks --- I appreciate your feedback. [ 29. 18. Was also wondering about the legality of paddling on the rivers... although landowners can own the land surrounding rivers, its not against the law/trespassing is it to have the attitude "Have kayak, will paddle" ?
  19. Do you any of the kayak fisherman go out during this time of year? I guess if the windsurfers manage to get out, kayakers can.
  20. Was looking at the Malibu Extreme as its become a very popular fishing kayak in the US and havent heard much bad said about it. Liked the idea that this kayak was pretty much unsinkable but Yakitys right it is 'big' and tbh dont know if I have the space for it.. havent got measuring tape out yet. Heard that OC was taken over a few years back and since then the build quality of the OC Scramblers have declined a bit (thinner plastics leading to a shorter life span..but older versions have fared well..cant remember the link where I saw this info will post it back up when i find it). Also heard that there is quite a bit of hull slap with the XT? What are your thoughts on this Yakity and for a kayak would you consider the XT to be a 'dry ride'?
  21. Thinking about it, but want to hire one out first. Only seems to be a handful of suitable types available in the UK to buy. OC Caper, Scrambler XT and Cobra Fish N Dive (bit bulky?) spring to mind. Have my eye on Malibu Kayaks, Extreme (http://www.malibukayaks.com/kayak_extreme.asp ) but shipping it to UK very expensive & theres no UK distributor. [ 28.
