  1. I was just on the Environment agency website and decided to renew my rod licence today for next season. The girl on the phone told me that I am able to fish from today now that I have bought my new licence which leads me to wonder, what happened to the traditional fishing season? or have I missed something? Confuzzled.
  2. Keith, that spot behind the pond by the 'weir' is the exact same one I have sussed out! unless you mean the weirs further up near to the A52? the place I like the look of is down towards the last footbridge before you get to the railway bridges/embankment, there isa small weir there and just below it the river becomes even more narrow but a bit more deeper, with over hanging trees and shrubs.. it looks pefect for catching some decent chub and barbel! I'm really excited about the new season actually, cant wait to get down there!
  3. haha! nice one. I never got the idea of using 'poles' especially when you see pole anglers breaking up all the sections again when they have a caught a 4oz roach etc. They can go and stick their poles right up their you-know-whats for all i care!
  4. Thanks very much eelfisher! that was just the tonic! The tackle shop on the bridge is the place where I got the 'word of mouth' from Don't worry by the way, been fishing for the last 15 years or so, so know all too well about the bloody close season! thanks again. What do you suggest by the way? trying to get them off the 'bottom' with luncheon meat? maybe even freelining?
  5. Hi there, I have already posted regarding this subject on another forum though with no response as yet, so I'm just hoping there's someone here that can help me out!!? I'm new to living in Long Eaton in Derbyshire and live just a short walk from both the Erewash Canal and adjacent river. Obviously the canal is fishable to a high standard but i'm not into any of that still water rubbish!! I like to fish water that actually moves! I have heard through word of mouth that the River Erewash here has been stocked with loads of barbel in recent years but if there is anyone out there reading this that can actually give me any tips about the Erewash river and how to fish it then it'd be hugely appreciated! For anyone that doesn't know, the River Erewash is a very narrow and fast flowing and shallow river with a max depth in my area of only about 5 feet or so, so if there's anyone with any general tips of how to fish rivers such as this then that too would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much for your time.
