  2. Ask in the sea fishing about images etc as they will have come accross them many more times and should have some pics.
  3. Yeah Weaver fish are evil little critters although it is self preservation really as they are prone to being stepped on. 2 types of waever fish: 1)Greater Weaver 2)Lesser Weaver Greater aint bad at all but Lesser is the one with a nasty sting and has been known to kill people. Always wear beach shoes if going across rock pools etc as this is where they are usually hiding. My experience of the lesser weaver is at hells mouth a couple years back, there were millions of them in! a couple in every puddle/rock pool on the beach, although difficult to step on as they spook as soon as they see you and swim away as if unaware of the weapon they have in their spines!
  4. That mean we can livebait carp and catch otters then? My nephew would love a pet otter
  5. Oh yeah, that'll put ya on the Bridgewater canal by the way, I went yesterday and got 4 Gudgeon, 5 Perch, 2 Roach, 1 Bream and 1 Common Carp. Goods days fishing in my book as I never catch much
  6. Yeah grew up there and my parents still live there so I always fish there..I live in Liverpool now so im currently scouting out the fishing places round here. If ya go up towards preston brook, do a left right after the spar down a little narrow lane, go under the M56 motorway bridge and through some bollards and on the right is a crackin spot where you can park your motorbike right behind ya, and it is kind of a nowhere place where no bailiff's go or public and plenty of room to pitch tent if you do night fishing.
  7. Oh yeah and there is the 'rezzy' as known locally. A nice lake that is adjacent to the bridgewater canal near castlefields. That has everything in it! You used to be able to get day tickets too, dont know if you still can, I fish the canal all the time which you can do if you get bored flip your rod around 180 degrees you will be in the canal
  8. Haha I know that feeling mate, my bike has been had-a-go-at a couple times by young un's. Anyhooz, Widnes ay.. Well there is great ponds in Runcorn, of the top my head, Sandymoor is an awesome large carp pit, dutton flashes is the same run by the same people and greenswood pond although I hear that aint too good anymore. No Idea about prices but they are only over the bridge and down the expressway! Theres a couple ponds in Halton Hospital too, they have giant orange fish in them.
  9. I only know 2 knots, but I believe they are the best and strongest knots ever. I have never had one fail yet and I get snagged a fair few times and I caught my first Carp today and it was fine for that! A nice common out of the canal! http://www.sea-fishing.org/ thats a little help on working out them knot tying pics where you are unsure which bit goes where and when.. animated pics ya see.. My fave knot is the uni-knot (<- may be known by another name aswell) it is bombproof I have found, and the easiest to learn!
  10. 10 Perch and a gudgeon. 1 pb perch and 1 pb gudgeon! Gudgeon actually looked like a real fish. I didn't weight them, they were just bigger than previous catches. Nice day and the first fish of 2004 for me!
  11. I have just started fishing the mersey but all my freshwater fishin is done i Runcorn, Cheshire.. I just fish the canal and a reservoir. Good fishing.
  12. Well I hope I can get one of those this morning, going fishing @ 5.30 am to a killer carp lcoation on the canal, so my mate says, so lets hope it pays off. Incidently there is (what I beleive it to be) an oxygen generator (a big concrete block that turns the water over) and one night my mate said there were at least 30 carp infront of it all docile and you could put your hand in and stroke them. I presume because they got too much oxygen they went a bit silly, or they were just having such a good time. What you reckon?
  13. Tuebrook, Liverpool it is located.
  14. I got an awesome Helly Hanson for my not-very-frequent sea fishing, but has proved great on freshwater's too. Especiallys pegs that are wide open to the elements and you get blasted with wind all day as good sailing coats are wind and waterproof with very high collar and low hood cover most of your face in really bad conditions. and it has buttons and clips and elastic everywhere, get really snug! My problem is footwear, after 2 hours even with 2 pairs of socks on my feet are freezing, even with paraboots on. Any suggestions? Wrap my feet in foil?
  15. Hey I went an excellent aquatics centre a couple weeks ago. An old swimming baths converted into a fishery. The swimming pool full of MASSIVE koi. Upon walking around I saw smaller tanks with Tench, Orfe and also Grass Carp! I couldn't believe it! I had to have 2 Grass Carp and 2 Orfe! I've got a few aquarium's in my house so I put them in the biggest tank and they are growing pretty quick! BIG WHIMPS tho, anything spooks them, all the other fish in there are really friendly, the Grass Carp are spooked at the slightest thing, I suppose thats there wild instinct kicking in. Beautiful swimmers tho' and very very fast! There reactions are lightning too, they swim full speed around the tank through obstacles and under bridges in the blink of an eye. May that be a lesson to anyone that wants to catch them. These buggers are quick.
