  1. Having what I'm sure was a skate from a certain pier in the highlands last year and not even coming close to landing the beastie...... I'm thinking of having a serious attempt this year! I was wondering if any of you guys have tried or infact succeeded in catching a common from the shore, who could advise on how to go about it... or if there are any ther marks worth a bash. I was also wondering if any of the Skate boffins could let me know if catching a common from the shore would be any more detrimental to the fish than catching from a boat, and ways to minimise this!
  2. the commercial boys....... because if i dont go fishing today there might not be any fish left tomorrow............. Fav TV presenter probably Henry gilby and his sea fishing series!
  3. Mull of Galloway! If you've not tried it then your definately missing something special! 20 species in a day! but the summer pollack fishing is phenominal(excuse the spellin) well worth the abseil!
  4. I've been a fan of the petzl zoom and mega headlamps for years now, even tho the batteries are heavy and expensive.... So I'm going to gemt me self one of the new lightweight LED head lamps! Has anyone got one that they'd reccomend there are so many on the market just now........ was thinking about the petzl ones,,,,, but don't know much about them??
  5. Grayling king, you have PM D
  6. Keith, I gotta agree with dale, the marks beyond the quarry are best with very deep water, would only fish the church(priory) at night...... normally only when it's calm....... if your gonna fish beyond the quarry take care on the track as it's rough to say the least....... (try clipping a starlight onto your snood near the hook, even if fishing in daylight it's dark at that depth anyway) both marks fish well for spurs and thornies on their night, but the rocks beyond the quarry are superb for pollack in summer! Dave
  7. Was thinking of heading to the east coast this weekend for some cod bashing, however the weather hasn't been kind! so do you guys think it would be worth while having a go, or should i just head up to etive for some spurs n thornies?
  8. I Agree, Congers for me. What a scrap! espescially from the shore!
  9. Ian, I like the sound of jocks point, just not sure which point it is! is it shown on the O/S map as jocks point or does it have another name, or is it the point that forms one of the extremeties of terally bay? also is there anywhere reliable for feathering fresh mackerel in the area? And what time of year would be best bet? cheers Dave
  10. Hope some of you guys can help.... I'm determined to catch a tope from the shore this year, was thinking the places to try would be around the mull of galloway or around loch etive in the north.... just not sure how best to target the tope bait, tide, times etc....... anyone in the know who can help? D
  11. Anyone having any joy with the east coast cod yet? Was thinking of heading over with a bucket of lug 'n' havin a bash!
  12. The link below from some anglers from the other side of the point may show the attitudes that have left so few sharks in the sea; maybe the commercial boys aint solely responsible as far as sharks go: http://www.newenglandsharks.com/shortfin.htm Also not the pic of the Mako jumping out of the water near the bottom of the page; I've seen the TV doc's with the Whites hitting seals and anuthing similar, but this picture must be a fake! fish must be atleast 20ft above the water!
  13. Having all but ended my little renault coupe driving through quarries and tracks the time has come to get a new fishing buggy! I'm looking for some info from you guys n gals on handy motors. Was thinkin medium 4x4 or a pickup that aint gonna cost the gulf to run! Any suggestions? Cover on average 250 miles a week on trips! mostly on tar mac! I know it isn't strictll afishing question, but i thought i'd ask anyway. cheers, D
  14. Sent an email to Neil Mackellow at penn, see what happens! Cheers guys
