  1. If your worried about the peat being to acidic try adding some calcified seaweed, should be able to get it from a good garden center. Add about 5% to the peat.
  2. They must be laughing eh? I mean they got away with it how many times before, still nothing gets done. It would take something like the plague for them to do something serious and then they would be blaming it on the ozone layer.....
  3. I'd overshot them, then hold them back to reveal a pimple of the float tip. Backshotting might help with a wind too. It also helps if you know your going to use the flat float, to use a pole support as your mainly holding the float dead still. Olivette right down and experiment with what shot you need below it to pin the hookbait down. I like my last shot close to the bottom, so the hookbait flutters as close to the bottom as possible. There good floats and do a job where you might need say a 6gram bodied pole float to do the job that a 3 or 4 gram lollipop can do. Bodied pole floats for running water above 4grams don't often come out around my way, when floats that big are needed then the lollipop gets used. Another pole method that works well on tidal/hard flowing water, especially when theres flood water and rubbish coming down is the pole feeder.
  4. We've got the Collingham match secretary, Russ coming down in the morning to make sure all goes well and to say hello. We've also got a few chaps that have fished it a few times before. As we are meeting up at the pub, we'll most likely be following Russ or one of the others down to where we will need to be. I'll e-mail Russ to ask him if your interested in coming.
  5. we will donate as prizes the following-------------------------- 1st 24 cans of beer 2nd 12 cans beer 3rd 12 cans beer and if the organiser contacts me, i will bring an enamel pin badge for all competiors see you all at the pub for breakie
  6. I'm not sure exactly where these pegs are. I posted on another site I wanted to do a match on the Trent and somewhere where was a few barbel and ideally some float fishing too, being greedy, LOL. Russ the match secretary for the collingham stretch said he could help. He's pegged us where theres both, the date should be when the tide is good for us but there is a long walk. Those who are used to river fishing and fishing the good pegs know too well that long walks are usually the norm. As far as I know we have a big iron gate to get over and then walk to the pegs if that helps. Not fished the trent there myself, but if you e-mail me I will pass on the e-mail of someone who knows it better. We've got a mixed crowd going so far, one or two match anglers that know the stretch quite well and from what I know so far a very good speci/pleasure angler that is quite handy on the stretch too. So if you do come there will be alot to learn and from a friendly crowd too.
  7. Any size of barbel would do me, not caught one from the Trent or fished the river since maybe 20 years ago so I'm looking forward to it. Nice to get away from the rat race commercials, LOL

  9. Thanks very much, some more interesting information. I would like to see pictures of the eel nets with the remains of the fish they catch when they are left in the rivers. I've got none myself yet, but it would certainly raise peoples awareness of the problem. Bit of shock therapy might make people realise that these are more of a threat than someone fishing rod and line and taking for the table.
  10. Hello all, new to this site so bear with me, LOL. Was drawn to this post and its nice to see the rivers still have friends. What about the eel netting? After speaking to 2 EA officers the other day it seems that the eel netting is a bigger problem than alot realise, me included. Being told that they are netting then shifting our eels to not just Holland, but places like China etc and to London restaurants that seem to be now adding eel to the menu's. Instead of the eel being looked after, it seems to of blown right up! They put the nets in late evening, take em out next morning, we never see it happen. Ok we might see the odd eel net thats been forgotten about or lost, where fish get trapped, then die. Or the nets that get purposely left out for bream and tench to stock commercial venues that won't pay the prices of farmed fish or want a quick fix of large fish. If you need any help Mark, I'll do what I can, people like you need support. Good on yer mate!
