  1. How close do tope come to the shore? How much bait do you have to get in the water to attract them?
  2. Hi both, I am new to this too and you have given some interesting snipits. I go from Aberporth which is also very sheltered by a head land. You are right about Mwnt it has a very steep set of long steps to the beach and I would not dream of trying it with my Malibu 2 far to heavy for lots of steps. But I have paddled to mwnt from Aberporth. Fishing wise it gets very nice between mwnt and Aberporth just after the head land at aberporth where there are lots of seals & dolphins. Mwnt is a favourite with shore fishermen I passed about 30 fishers on the rocks as we paddled passed them the other week. We have been thinking of trying Newquay as I often fish from there on the quay and also on the cause way north of there where you can take smooth hounds mostly at low water but you should use lots of smelly bait to attract them.
  3. Take some feathers and fish the incoming tide you mifght get lucky and get some makies or pollock. Get some fresh makies if you don't catch from tescos and fish strips on a ledger, you will most likely get doggies galore, dabs, may get some more interesting specimin if you lucky.
  4. Try lifting a malibu two xl single handed cause your misses cant lift it, i thing I need to do some bench work.
  5. I cut out one of the 6 in hatch holes in the Yak, as I had a screw top water proof pot I wanted to put in the hatch to hold valubles that just cant get wet, i.e phone, camera, car keys, etc. First try with silicon and suprise it fell out. Just refitted it with the epoxy putty. After it set it was in rock solid and I mean rock solid I have picked up the Malibu two XL by the handle of the water proof screw pot!! so it holds 70 kilos, Yep it Sticks!!
  6. Title says it all I want to but one but would like to take advantage of all your knowledge and let you reccomend the best one!
  7. What you want is an inflatable piles cushion!!!

  9. Hi Simon, Sorry I go from Aberporth West Wales. Been looking for diving birds but none in sight the last few trips along the coast.
  10. All good advice I will try and get some sea charts
  11. Right Had the Kayak for about three weeks now and done the nice paddling and tried fishing a bit. Put rod rests on and kitted out. Never having been fishing from boats I do not know where to go from. Do I just paddle round the coast where I would not other wise be able to fish or do i paddle out to see for a mile and fish there?? by trial and error find somewhere to fish? How do i know where any reefs or recks are? Must I buy a fish finder, are there maps I can buy? I think thats enough questions for one posting. Listening with interest!! Doshkadog
  12. Hi Just a thought but there are a lot of fishing programs on TV (Sky) And I AM Sure if you tell them you catch tope from a Yak, they will want to make a tv show about it. Who no's you may be stars!!
  13. Just a bit of info You can purchase from the Famous Pound shop in cardigan and Newquay a tube of epoxy putty. Looks like black blue tack with a similar consistance but after needing in your hand for a few minuets gets very sticky then sets off rock hard after about twenty minuets. Can then be drilled, tapped etc. Very useful for filling holes in an emergency and only costs 1 pound a tube.
  14. Another question, do the bright colours of the yaks scare the fish off? Sorry if I sound dim!!
  15. Dear All, Went out on the week end from Aberporth west wales with feathers lures tobies (and the wife)in our Malibu two xl. Ynys Lochtin was alittle to far for us to paddle to so we headed down the coast past the MOD base on the head land. Having never been boat fishing before (save for a makeral trip when young) we cast out and trawled the feathers and lures behind the yak. (not a canoe obviously) Save for one tiny pollock that tried to eat a lure twice its size we caught nothing. However we did bump into some other yaks whom were fishing and they had caught quite a few mackies. As the whole yak business is very new to us we were enjoying paddling as much as fishing. When Dolphins pass you by as though you are not there and seals come out to see what you are doing it really does not matter if you do not catch anything. Any way our little paddle down to the MOD turned into a brisk paddle to Mwnt and back which took about an hour and a half each way thats about a 6 mile round trip!!, (before you say anything I have done alot of canoing in the past but this is my first Yak so paddeling distance is not a problem. My water tight box came free from the yak??? I used silicone to seal it in. Is there anything better to use? Epoxy may be? WHat sticks best to Yak plastic??
  16. Hi, We just got a new malibu two XL which came with a gaspachi hatch. Being a keen fisher I decided to try trailing some crab lines with feathers. Well would you belive it my wife wins the first fishing contest. With a 2 lb pollock. How did she know she had caught the fish? well the seal which was chasing us obviously keenly interested in the very large live bait being towed behind our new canoe!!! Just spent the weekend kiting canoe out with water tight boxes and rod rest to try out this week end. We go off of West Wales coast by MOD Aberporth. Can any one advise any places of speacial fishing interest to try? Please?
