  1. Safest way to get Skate in a tube is wear to the chippy!
  2. Fellas, I'd hate to learn casting with an 8 wt though. Struggled a bit with one in Florida, dropped down to a 6 wt (same model, same reel, same line make) and cast much better. Reckon I'd sooner spin for Pike and use a small rod for rudd and a small black gnat.....Russell needs to CATCH!
  3. Hi both, . Your building a rod prompted me to dig out a near-perfect Hardy Favourite which requires a reel seat. Good job to while away the close-season. I've moved home several times with it and, yep, I've split it just above the cork. Add it to the museum?
  4. Greetings, Stumbled upon the forum and had to join in with this discussion. I'm with Sportsman on this: twenty years with an Orvis "One Weight" (7'6", 1 3/8ozs) on rivers and lakes convinces me that light is right and far more fun, albeit in the right conditions: I wouldn't fish for Permit on it! Heaviest rainbow to date must be around 3.5lb on a 2lb tippet. It shoots almost as well as a five weight with a little double-hauling but I've replaced the original line with an Airflo 2 weight now and it seems to work even better. Finding a reel to balance is a bit of a problem! Looking forward to joining in.java script:void(0) Cool
