  1. Sharkbyte, Your fishing interest are in light tackle angling, so large pray are not for you. The Florida Key's is great for your persuit. Let us know when you are headed down, be glad to help you in any way.
  2. Hi, I am from florida in the USA. In our experience both need regulation. But if the regulation is not enforced nothing works. Not to say that all commercial fisherman do the wrong thing. But remember they are trying to make a living$$$$$$$$. Their trying to make $$$$$$ today. When rules are put in place many of them will go out of bussiness. Also many of the rec fisherman will have to release fish that look very nice on the table. No pain no gain, every one has to pay. Alliance's are hard to work out, specially when the party's have opposeing side and interest.
  3. Norm B Thank you for being the voice of reason.
  4. quote: Originally posted by Scopex: [/qb] I'm sorry you seem to miss my point. In my eyes the sport is, finding, getting the fish to bite and hooking the fish, the fight, in my eyes, can be way over-rated. Personally, I want to catch fish...not wrestle them around for ages and ages! Then why not just not use hooks? That way the fish dose not get harmed.
  5. Tony are Cuban? If so Glad to see a fellow conrtymen.
  6. I dont get it if you are going to keep the fish to eat it , you cant take a pic? The fish on that pic was eaten, what is wrong wit hvaing a pic?
  7. Stan the weather here is terrible and with the storm headed this way, looks like we cant fish till next week. And I to think the theard it slloowwing down. As for us we back at our forum. If your guys would look in and read with open minds, it might be easyer to understand us. Remember you are going to see alot of pics, we think it make for a better story with pics. http://outdoorsbest.zeroforum.com/zeroforum?id=8
  8. Pike are harty fish strong mouths and strong fish. Fish like the sword have a very soft mouth. If we horse them in we would rip their mouth a part. I understand what you are saying.
  9. Sorry I edited my post before you posted.
  10. Scopex, I understand that you use it in order to release it sooner. You say the lighter line could break and leave the fish to get tangled, maybe so. That is your view. But if the fish breaks your 80# power pro, do you think it is going to have a easyer time with it than the lighter line?
  11. We were just standing up for ours in the begining. I look in every day just because I love to fish and when we cant fish we read and post about it. But I must say I have learned alot about your fishing and its state. I think that the reason some of you get offeneded by the way we do things(fishing no politics) is do to the fact that your fishing grounds are in bad shape. Some of you still dont get it we take pics of the dead fish for trophy sake and then we eat the fish, we dont kill the fish for the pics. This thread has made me appretiate ours. We are so used to things the way they are that we don't realize how good we have it.
  12. Stan, I discussed this with Scopex. And I think what he says is that he uses it for its abration resistence, in order to get the fish out of structure.
  13. The weather was terrible today in South Florida, most of probably had to work on our "Homey Dew List" so when the weather is good we can fish. The reason most of us jumped in is because of the offensive post made by some. Please look in to our forum and fell free to join in. http://outdoorsbest.zeroforum.com/zeroforum?id=8
  14. Can we stop for tea and tiffin first? We stop for coffe and donuts. Thank god this thread has become civil. [ 15. October 2005, 02:11 PM: Message edited by: BOTTOMFISH ]
  15. Capt thank you for giving the due respect to all.
  16. quote: Originally posted by BoatsMiami.com Yacht Sales: [/qb] Gannet, Are you kidding me? If you feel you have no responsibility financially to give back to the fishery when it gives so much to you, you could be the poster child for cheap and careless fisherman who want it all but will not get off their lazy a$$es to do something for themselves. Don't bi+ch & moan, you apparently haven't earned that right. Since you brits, for the most part, are passive people who let their government remove basic freedoms and rights from their lives, why should you learn to stand up for yourself now? It's easier to keep that status quo and wine in your beer? Get up, get out, and get moving to fix your fishery problems. Start a revolution... we once did! [/QB] Boats you are on the money, I say you start a revolution. We will back you up.
  17. Stan, Any help we can provide just ask. Glad to see you have Intys, I love them. My son and I use the 2-80 for Sword along with 2 of our 6-50's, the other 4 and 4-30's we use for trolling for Wahoo,Sailfish,Dolphin,Marlin and others. We also use them for some of those Grouper. Some have posted that we kill everything in reality you see the pics of what we catch and eat not what we release. I guess for some one that has never been here and seen the amount of fish we have it may seen wrong to take a large fish.
  18. Stan you are correct we have learned that you need to unify to get things done. We have countless number of Fishing Club, Boating Clubs, Forums and others. Information passed from one to another and use to better our fishery. All the info and help we could provide is your for the asking, our forums are all about help others fish more in a sporting manor. I have a Question what is the normal amount of tackle a fisherman owns(#of rods & reels)? Do alot of people own boats and what size? The reason I ask is our normal and your normal seem to be very different. Here in South Florida we have a Boat in 1 out of 5 homes. And as for tackle at least my friends and I all have dozens of rods & reels.
  19. Sorry Bottomfish, you miss my point. The use of 80lb power pro for casting heavy jerkbaits is not uncommon in the UK, and it ensures you get both lure and fish safely to the bank. I personally think the sport is in finding, catching and playing the fish, not simply battling against the risk your line snapping. Fishing so light that you have to play the fish nearly to death or risk your line snapping doesn't equate to sport in my eyes. Scopex I understand what you are saying, and their is the difference. For bottom fishing here to catch Grouper we use heavy leader(50-80# mono)but that is to catch a fish normaly over 15#.The Grouper can pull 80# main line in to a hole in a matter of seconds with full drag on standup gear. This being said we could catch the Grouper with 130# or more but we dont for the sport and conservation of the fish. We all fish for the sake of getting the fish to the boat, but over here give the fish a fihtging chance. The big difference I see posted is the fact that you have no fish by our standars. I live on a canal(river) behind our home, my son(15) catches fish over 40# and releases every one. Our fishery in Florida are a dream for you from what I see posted. Believe we know we are living a dream this is why we take the pics you so dont like, Again I say that we take pics to record the glory not killing of the fish.
  20. we are heavily regulated and enforced as I mention. Any true sportsman has to appretiate that.
  21. five bellies Thanks for your point of reply. Please read my post I edited it. Our fishery in Florida in most ways is better than ever because of the sportfisherman who protest to make new laws. Yes is the fishery could not sustain it the laws would prevent us from keeping then. A new law just passed that futher limits Red Grouper fishing in the Gulf. This is an example.
  22. Where does this happen? Not in the UK, unless you want to go to prison. quote: The difference is that we give the fish the respect they deserve with pics, we admire them so the pic is a record of that. The same as we take pics of our children or anything of importance. Last time I took a pic of my little girl, i hadn't just killed her and hung her up outside. The tit-for-tat thing just doesn't work. We're anglers - if people really want to have a go at us, they only have to identify the fact that we all stick hooks in fish for fun and wrench them out of their natural environment. Us having a go at each other is plain daft. By all means, it's great to see the fors and againsts discussed. Like I said, it's swayed a few people over here, but please ignore the wind-up merchants on both sides who just want to create daft arguments for argument's sake. It happens on forums all the time, mainly due to the supposed anonimity of it all, but is probably made 'worse' in this instance here because these guys are 1000's of miles apart. On a lighter note, I wonder if anyone saw this post by our (American!) moderator? Thanks Elton Sorry for the Fox thing I read your post after I posted. I edited my post. My point is that we dont look at it like you do. "The difference is that we give the fish the respect they deserve with pics, we admire them so the pic is a record of that." We see from the sporting side. Apart from the laws, we use tackle that give the fish a sporting chance. So when we do take a fish and take a pic with it, it's because of pride of a the conquest.
  23. New to your forum, I am from Florida. Ignorant mentality that some people show is impresive. Fishing is a Sport and Sports are about the strugle and the conquest. So when you win and take a picture, your effort is degraded because you toke a picture of the victory? The pic is of the fisherman and his quary, not a guy with a lump of meat. You that are against taking a pic with a fish, dose it matter if the fish is small or large. Does a pic with a Carp offend you the same way? We the fishermen take pride in our skill, effort and ability to catch a fish in the middle of the night 1000' down 20-30 miles out in the Ocean(on a lucky night)with reasonable tackle. The Carp,Pike .... you talk about are less impresive than that Swordfish? The difference is that we give the fish the respect they deserve with pics, we admire them so the pic is a record of that. The same as we take pics of our children or anything of importance. We have laws on quantity, size, season and yes tackle. Our laws are strickly enforced and the fines include loseing your tackle and boat. Tackle(at least $3,000) and boat($25,000) for most or atleast me. We have Coast Guard, Water Mangement, Florida Game and Wildlife Commission, Marine Patrol and Police boats from each City do you think this because we dont care about the fish. You have laws you dont enforce and that is because you as a sportsman dont do for you fish what we do for ours in order to get them protected. You catch small fish with 80# power pro and say this is conservation, what is the sport in that! [ 15. October 2005, 02:36 AM: Message edited by: BOTTOMFISH ]
