  5. Hi all, I am looking to purchase some new reels very soon. My budget is £180 for 3 reels. I have been looking at the Shimano 8000RE bait runner and the Daiwa Emcast Evo 5000. Both are very similar in price, I am drawn toward the Daiwa, but am an old Shimano die hard at heart. Your thoughts and comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Will
  6. I agree with Scoop, bag it up and freeze it till next time.
  7. Just "SEVEN" makes it a bit more mysterious. TL Will
  8. Hi Moth, I know how you feel, the wait was like when the wife was giving birth. I use plastic electrical conduit available from B&Q you can buy it in 2 or 3 metre lengths with the straight couplers which allows you to join it together you want roughly 2 ft sticking out of the water with the top painted in a flouresent colour so you can see it in the dark. If you used garden canes when the line hits it it would probably be to course and could loose you a fish. I watched the dutch guys loose a fish because they had put some flouresent tape round the top of their markers and the line parted when it went over the tape, they were gutted, We didnt laugh much! it looked like a lump they lost. Wish I was coming with you! TL Will
  9. Hi Moth, Did you get my Email showing the pics of Swim one? TL Will
  10. Gentlemen: Swim 2 is approx 2 metres deep, There is so much scope in swim 2 you have a lot of water to fish, find the old river bed it is approx 1 ft deeper than the rest with soft silt, Take some pole markers and row them out, fish the markers. The dutch guys who were fishing swim 2 when we were there did this and had some good fish to 40 plus. As I told Moth we fished single hook baits and very few freebies crumbled up to attract the fish. The bait boat was a bonus and will be in swim 2, as there is less disturbance than when you are rowing out to place your baits. Swim 6 is approx 4-5ft deep and acts like a channel between 1,2&4 to swim 3 and 5, again look for the old river bed. Dont forget a bait in mid water as a mate of mine was in swim 6 and picked up a 41 common half way across. Theres a lovely margin mark next to some reeds to the left of swim 6 under the pylons always worth a bait but didnt produce a fish whilst we were there. It seemed as if they were using swim 6 as a run through to swim 3 so a zig rig might be worth a try to catch an unsuspecting lump. Please let me know how you all get on as we booked next years trip today. TL Will

  13. Hi Moth, Arrived home yesterday. We fished swim five for the week, Tactics were single hook baits with small pva bags and a small amount of Freebies scattered around marks. The bottom of the whole lake is pretty featureless, there is an old river bed running through the lake and this is the feature to fish to, all bar 3 of our fish were taken from this mark. Swims 1 and 5 are the least popular we had all of our fish on Wednesday night / Thursday morning. We asked to move to swim one(as no one was fishing swim one) on Tuesday but the Baliff Paul refused as the rules state you cant move swims. Swim 3 produced about 5 fish biggest 34lb Grassy, Swim 6 produced 3 fish biggest 41lb Common, swims 2 and 4 were fished by some dutch guys and they had about 6 fish each but they were all lumps biggest 45lb common. Our tally for the week is as follows:24lb mirror, 20lb common, 34lb mirror, 35lb mirror, 14lb Sturgeon, 46lb common, 22lb mirror,24lb sturgeon,14lb fully scaled mirror, 36lb mirror. All the fish were in tip top condition. I have taken some pics on my mates camera of swim one and will up load them later for you. When we left there were some french anglers in swim one and the fish were topping all over the place, the swim was really like a fish soup. Keep your rigs simple 8- 10 inches of braid, good quality size 6 hooks knottless knotted etc. 3 oz in line leads this did the trick for us and Paul the bailiff will check your rigs. Keep your unhooking mats and weighslings on the top when you pack as Paul will ask to see them on your arrival, we had to unpack the entire trailer to show him. The lodge was very good with shower ,toilet, and fully equipped kitchen. There are bikes there for the anglers use, make sure you get there early to get one. The supermarket is 10 mins away and well stocked. Carp pellets are available there at 50 euros for 25kilo, they use these to feed the fish in the stock ponds so they are used to them. Take some permenent markers with you (the pole type not the line and weight type) row them out in the boat and push them in the bottom, fish to the markers. Dont put huge amounts of bait in unless you know they are really having it. All in all we had a great weeks fishing, although the wait was long it was worth it. Please let me know how you get on. TL Will
