  1. I live In Salisbury and have fished to death the longleat and shearwater lakes. I know the fish by name. I used to fish bury hill down in Dorking when I lived in London and want to fish another quality venue near by that allows day ticket night fishing. The Broadlands lakes sounds good but the M27 is putting me off. Is it worth fishing when you can hear the traffic from a major motorway 24/7?? Any other good day ticket (night session) venues in the south you can recommend?? Would be after 30+ fish and would be happy to pay top dollar. Cheers
  2. Anyone on here fished it recently? Whats the costs? Any advise on swims and baits?? Cheers
  3. I have used a similar rig a few times fishing for big carp but have always bagged BIG bream. I have decided to give it another go with a running feeder bomb full of fish based ground bait, worm extract and chopped worms. The hook bait will be the largest lob worm I can find hooked once and held on the hook with a fake maggot. I will cut one end off and inflate the other to keep him well of the ground and well out of trouble. When used before the effects were not instant and it took a few hours until the big bream found it. The bites are slow to build up. I am thinking I will use a carp style set up instead of the feeder rod I have used in the past. I will be using a heavy x line to keep the main line on the surface. The link up to the hook is a fine 3x.203mm 9.2lb fly fishing line. Here are a few pics of the rig. I will post any catches. Any help or advise very welcome.
  4. To counter balance the pop-up with a short size 8/10 hook?? Just a ruff idea? I bought a couple of tubs of cheap 18mm pop-ups from my local tackle shop. One tub of 18mm Ron Hutchinson squid and octopus and 18mm Nutrabaits tecni-spice. Both for a fiver. I am busy adding some extra spice and fish oils to boost the attraction.
  5. X-Line. Has a very good ratio. My 15lb is 0.31mm and I think 10lb was about 0.26. Its a fluorocarbon line. Not had any trouble with it but it does cost a lot. I'm typing with one arm and one leg..
  6. Had one horrible bream with lots of red lumps on it that really smelt bad and two small common of about 3-5 lbs. I have washed my hands in everything I can think of but can still smell the bream!! Poor thing the marks were on both sides so I guess it would have been a Pike attack that became infected. I was fishing into silt so I used the slit/helicopter rig. I was missing lots of fish. Only having one or two beeps on the alarm(set low sensitivity to avoid wind bites!) then finding when I reeled in the stopper bead was way passed the leadcore and onto my main line with the bait gone! What other options can I use when fishing in silt tight to the far bank? The silt can be a food deep in places and you need a good size lead to reach the area. Still better than watching Matt Hayes do the fishing and some lessons will be learned.
  7. Was planning a days carping tomorrow but with the high 25mph MW winds and light rain I am starting to have second thoughts. Will the high winds stop the bites. The air pressure will be dropping/changeable which is normally a good thing. Will need the rod tips under the water or with close in back leads to prevent the alarms going off after every gust! What do you think?? (I am talking myself into it)
  8. Thank guys. I was beginning to doubt my ability after blanking most of the winter. Lets hope more is to follow.
  9. Caught on a single pineapple pop up on a helicopter ring close to the far bank in silt. Its good to have a bend in the rod again. Weight just under 10lb {admin edit - Removed link to file hosting service which makes you wait 60 seconds, use www.imageshack.us or something in future, thanks}
  10. Nothing will happen to them. Sweet **** all. We must respect the rights of foreign people in our country. Muslims can let animals bleed to death. Poles can kill/steal carp. While the tradition of fox hunting which has been practised for 500 years was banned to stop cruelty to animals. They are now shot instead... Thanks tony
  11. Answered my own question. Went to chuck in some more bait in the shallow end and the water was not even cold to the touch. Chucked in a bag of pellets and half a bag of richworth tutti and sat back tp watch the lake. 5 mins later I saw a few cap roll and jump out of the water just where I had put in the bait.
  12. I prefer the sky fishing programs myself. Tight like and Thinking Tackle with that dick with the crap hair cut. A Passion for Angling would be good to see again.
  13. I will be fishing a a steam fed 37 acres lake on next Friday that has been closed for the past three months. The weather is looking like being warm 10c ish with a bit of rain. The lake is fed from the west by a small steam and is dammed on the west end. The depth starts at about 2-3 feet in the west and rises to 10-15 feet in the far end. I have been pre baiting an area in the shallow end that in great for carp in the summer. But I feel I may have been wasting my time and bait as the temperature has dropped greatly in the past few weeks. I have blanked at this end of the lake twice before and after xmas. I know its a bit of a shot in the dark but where shall I fish?? (for carp)
  14. The same reason that the Afghan hijackers were given a council house and benefits???
  15. I only collected the empty shells anyway. I am guessing that a few salt water mussels (Green lipped) and a spray of the Van Den Eynde - Liquid Green Lipped Mussel in a fishy ground bait should do the job? Where best to get the mussels and what type to use for hook bait??
  16. About 10-12 cm long and about 5-7cm width.
  17. Anyone have any idea what king of mussels they are?? Spengler's freshwater mussel seems the only one native to the uk? Would be good to know the breeding seasom etc?
  18. My local lake (37 acres) is closed for a few months and I decided to prebait a well known good warmer weather carp area. The area is shallow and near the enterance to the stream that feeds the lake. I have been using pellets and a few boilies and a bit of corn. On my visit today the lake had been drained a little to reveil the first 5 meters of the margin. All around the area near the stream inlet (the place carp are in the summer) were lots of clam shells. I take it that these are natural fresh water clams and the reson the carp like this area so much? Any infomation on these clams?? What baits would you recommend in such a lake?? Cheers
  19. I have booked a night session at the big lake at Willow park for the start of February. Can anyone give me any advise on baits, swims, and rigs etc. As I have never fished the lake before. Also is the lake any good in winter? What size carp are in the lake? Cheers

    Whiting

Has anyone on the South coast started catching Whiting yet? Especially around Chesil? Cheers
  21. Anyone know of a good proven boats/skippers for 8-10 people for my 30th birthday. Some of them will be good course angles some shore anglers and others completly new!! Thanks for any recommendations.
  22. I have fished at Bury Hill (Dorking) for the past year and a half. The fishing this summer is nothing like it was last year in the spring /summer. Last years the lake seemed full of big carp and tench. People around the lake were all reporting good catches of carp tench and bream. I had a number of double figure carp and my PD of 28Lbs. AS you walked around the lake everyon4e had good stroried of catches they had or had last week etc. I have been four times this summer/spring at various times of the day anf week and tried many tactics and swims. All I have caught are a few small and old half dead bream. Its not just me, everyone I taked to seemed to blanked. I have also notice that the lake seems a lot quieter than last year. Has something happened ti the lakes?? Have all the carp been moved to the "members only carp lake"? Did they have a disease?? Even the man in the tckle shop didn't bother to lie about how it was fishing!! Whats going on??
  23. I second the K2 Powerplay. I picked a new one up from ebay for about £50. Its superb. A brilliant reel. It makes my more expensive Baitrunners look like kids toys!! I saw one on ebay for £60 "Buy It Now" earlier today. You get 2 spools. Get one!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Shakespeare-K2-Power...VQQcmdZViewItem Here is the link!!. Its not me selling it. Really...
  24. I am going to be trying a local commercial lake after the busy holiday weekend in the evening sometime this week. The carp will have seen a few million pellets and boilies... My tactic is to use big lob worms close in that are popped up using a syringe. The hook link will be some combi braid with the large shot to hold the worm down on the stiff part and the worn will be allowed to wriggle freely on the softer braid on about a size 6 hook. I will be chooping up lots of worms and mixing with some darker groundbait and chucking in at regular intervals to attract interest. The above is all worked out but I cant work out what rig/rod to use?? A bolt rig? A freeline? Feeder(with above mix) and quiver tip? Any ideas?
