    Shad Rigs

I have only tried shads on a boat a few times. Mostly I cast them from shore. I have used them exactly how you would with a redgill. 10oz weight 9-12 ft trace. dont be afraid to use the small ones(25gram) I had these mostly as it was my shore collection I used and they produced as well and better on the two occasions I used them. On the better occasion singling out the cod. One thing I noticed was that my catch was restricted to cod, pollock & bass, whilst others with redgill & jellyworms were also connecting with poating & mackeral. I see this as a bonus because the less time you spend winding in something you are not targeting thr more chance you have of connecting with something better. Good luck.
  2. Nice one chesters, not sure if this wll work but worth ago.
  3. Leon, I have a Warren sunrise on my desk top at work, it keeps me saine. Better luck next time & may we have many more days like that throughout the summer. I feel a camping trip is due. Col.
  4. Well done Sharkbyte, Same tide/sun set & stretch of water I guess? but I sought my quarry from south of the river in Kent last night. I blanked allthough I know the fish are there and went to a reputable ray mark. Dare I ask what your bait was? and mybe I can post some fish pics too? Happy fishing Col.
  5. Good luck with your fishing. Aim for the following species and I dont think you will be far away. If things in the Thames are similar to the Medway then I guess you can expect some bass and sole action in the summer months with prolific pouting and whiting (mostly small) with a few codling chucked in for good measure, during the winter period. I am sure you will see some flounder and eel in there too. Keep it real and do your research and I am sure you will have fun. light gear is a bonus if the fish can be reached but I have found you often need to retain the bigger gear to battle tide or get distance. You will need to judge where the fish are on your marks. Col.

    normans bay

Thanks for the honest report Stavey. I guess like most marks I would benefit from low light/night fishing given the species you have mentioned. I dont believe the area is a deep water venue? Norm & pout thanks also, but I try to make it a habbit even if I have no plans to fish. At least I can take as little as possible and still target a realistic quarry. Two good reasons to pray for no rain. 1. Grew up catching flounder & eels. bin there done that. 2. Not much fun in a folding camper . Ta................Col.

    normans bay

Advise welcome please. Will be staying at Normans bay(Pevensey) Camping site on the May bank holiday weekend, and would like to try and get some fishing in down there. Does anyone know what I can realisticaly expect to catch and how best to target fish, ie.location, state of tide and bait. Should I consider Langney point?
  8. Hi all, Pains me to say it but I grew up in strood fishing the pier 15-20 years ago. Made a few mistakes & learned a lot too. You have to give beginners the credit and space if they want to develope an interest in the sport. If you dont want these encounters stay away from the hot spots. Never set fire to a plastic industrial waste bin though, which seems to be the latest trick! not exactly fishing. Its realy up to us though to make these individuals feel unwanted, or we stand to loose access to some more good locations(ie Laser Quay and more) Anyone know if strood pier is ever going to be re-connected? Col. Keep on shinning sun, you have a lot of catching up to do.
  9. Hi all, New to this forum, have been reading for a while, hope I can post advise or even mistake for others to avoid. I would argue that the summer shore fishing Thames and Medway area has improved somewhat over the last ten years, but never tried shore fishing for roker untill late last year (August) from a venue I spotted at low tied under the cliffs to the left of leysdown(Sheerness). Had no joy, but I was trying to find Eastchurch Gap, which I have heard can sometimes also produce shore cought roker. Anyone else agree or perhaps better, know where this place is? Col.
