  1. Chicken/Egg scenario, some states ban the .50 cal barret, so there is the barret .416 which is arguably vastly superior IMHO.

Same as illicit or illegal drugs, Govts. Ban a drug, in order to legislate they write its own chemical formula into the legislation, criminals change the formula slightly and its rinse & repeat once the new drug is made illegal.

.408 cheytac is also a good replacement for .50 bmg in that it also holds supersonic velocities out to over 2000 yards like the .416 barrett and unlike the .50 bmg.

The Californian law is a bit of a stupid one really as it specifically bans .50 bmg rifles but leaves weapons firing similar rounds (.510 DTC europ) perfectly legal.

  2. Snakey,

Your proportionality doesn't hold water for cyclists IMO. Let them voluntarily designate their pittance of road tax allocations to "cycle paths". Indeed, roads are designed and built for "cage drivers" and the funding is overwhelming. Your logic does make sense however. Cyclists don't mind using the grass in parks, walking paths, sidewalks, using the wrong side of the roadway, or other public areas to suit themselves. They are entitled.

Of course, the a-holes are among both. However percent of cyclists breaking the law as a percentage of users is equally overwhelming.

Most "cage drivers" actually drive by using some common sense. You stay on your side of the road as a matter of mutual trust. For some arrogant reason common decency does not apply if you own a $40 water bottle and a clown suit.

Particularly annoying are the ones that use the crease between the lane and edge or the road or the edge of the centerline

As stated previously in the UK there is no "road tax" and the closest thing VED is based on emissions so electric vehicles are exempt as are bicycles, so the roads are funded equally from central taxation by anybody who pays tax road users or not (even pedestrians help fund them if they pay tax) so caged drivers funding is not over whelming and equally if you check statistics there are far more car drivers who break the law than cyclists. As for the arrogance that is plain to see in car drivers as easily as it is in cyclists, the turds who merrily use their phones while driving despite it being against the law, who shoot red lights at crossings, including the w@nker who nearly hit me today when he decide a red light didnt mean stop to him despite it being on a level crossing over a train track (it's just a pity the train hadn't quite got to the crossing). Those who constantly speed (especially past schools) and those who park illegally in front of schools because they're too lazy and/or fat to walk an extra five yards. car drivers who fail to give the correct amount of clearance when passing cyclists and try and force you into kerb.redirecting my tax to pay for more cycle lanes would be a great idea except for the fact that a lot of the time they're blocked by arrogant car drivers who park in them.

I could of course lump all car drivers together but there are good and bad in all walks I have come across a good number of courteous drivers who follow the highway code, obey the law and are pleasant to other road users but sadly nowadays they seem to be outweighed by the arrogant, self righteous and overly entitled car drivers who think they own the road and any common sense they have you could fit in a match box without taking the matches out first.

  3. Cory,

I am not "pro-bike" - any of them.

You say, """. . . in the UK because cage drivers think they are oh so special and that they own the roads""". Frankly, that's exactly what I believe. By what right or benefit do you use my roads. The ones built and paid for by my taxes for the express purpose of accommodating "cage drivers".

May I also say I've yet to meet a cyclist who wasn't holier than thou when it comes to using public property. A preponderance of bikers I have dealt with are total dip-chits> (jdressed like clowns with a $40 water bottle).

    I could be wrong.

    Phone

Roads in the UK are funded from general taxation so anybody who pays tax funds the roads not just car drivers so by that right cyclists have the same right to use the roads as car drivers and with the exception of motorways they were not built expressly for the use of "caged drivers".

As for the holier than thou attitude yes some cyclists are a55holes but there are a considerably larger number of car drivers who fit that bracket if for no other reason than there are more of them using the roads than cyclists.

  4. Apparently labour now have a 4 point lead in the polls after coming out in favour of a second referendum take it as you want is it younger generation making there mark as they come of age to vote very interesting.

depends what poll you go by YouGov's poll from 3 days ago puts conservatives 4 points ahead of labour who are 1 point behind the brexit party https://yougov.co.uk/topics/politics/articles-reports/2019/07/12/voting-intention-con-24-brex-21-lab-20-lib-dem-19-

  5. Pretty pointless observation, as would be my recounting how many times I've had to make an emergency stop or swerve because a cyclist does something daft.

By regarding cyclists as crass idiots I've probably saved about a dozen of their lives.

By the way I rode a cycle from age 10 to 16, a motor cycle from age 16 to age 22, have driven a car ever since, plus tractors, minibuses, light goods vehicles and steam locomotives and towed caravans and trailers. Allied to that I have been a pedestrian for the best part of my 85 years. So I have experienced road traffic conditions from all aspects. There is no doubt that the untrained (that's 99 % of them) cyclists are the biggest menace to road safety.

Yes, I know all cyclists on this forum regard themselves as paragons of excellence., Whether or not this is true, you are all very safe from me, why ? because I regard all cyclists as suicidal idiots and give them a wide berth.

you should be thanking me for it.

AS not all road users think as I do, then you need some self-protection. A cycling proficiency test, registration and MOT tests of cycles plus third party insurance should be mandatory.

PS, I forgot to add that cycles should be road-taxed.

why should cycles be road taxed ? cars aren't and haven't been since 1937. if your talking VED, that's based on emissions and I suspect cycles would fall in the same bracket as electric cars and be exempt.

As for cyclists being the biggest menace to road safety well that's just complete ****** and any accident survey data will up hold this, yes some cyclists are idiots but there are far more car drivers who are are and cause accidents than cyclists.

  6. Just because theres rules doesnt mean they are followed ,findus never sold horse meat? ,the food processing plant never picked up meat off the floor or changed tracking lables? Mathews never brought in dodgy meat from the EU?

We send meat all over the world for processing can you provide proof its handled safely and more importantly kept at the safest temperature 100% of the time? We are no different we just are more clever hiding it

Best not mention fipronil contaminated eggs

Edit: BTW Snakey is right - most of my fellow Americans are apes

Not insulting Americans Phone (I have American family) but it's just natural instinct and something we (and by that I mean the human race) have done forever. our nearest relatives apes do it and as vagabond points out so does most the rest of nature and we'll carry on doing it no matter what some people think

  8. No the man flying the Mexican flag is just one of many millions .

As opposed to the roughly 63 million Americans who liked him enough to actually vote for him, I think that holds a bit more sway than one Scot flying a Mexican flag

  9. Then they should stop and search lots of suspicious looking white youths as well.

No problems, as long as the criteria for search of any colour is the fact that they look suspicious, not just their ethnic background or skin tone.

They might have difficulty in doing that in some areas as the locals are predominantly black or Asian also considering in London 66% of knife offenders under 25 were non white surely it make more sense to be stopping and searching these groups more often and political correctness be damned.

  11.

I'm down to my last jar too but fortunately Birmingham markets are very good and I will just go get the chilies, apples and lemons when I need a new batch.

I'm based just outside Birmingham so can use the markets but I prefer to grow my own chillies that way I can pick the varieties I want (I normally grow about 8 different varieties but have enough at the moment so am having a fallow year this year).
  12. Where do you get all your expert opinions from you make them up .
