  1. Question Did any one see the F word the other night when they went spear fishing for Bass? How do you regulate fish sizes if being spear fished? if we are saying that all undersized fish should be returned, this can only hapen if you have it hooked in your hand. I can not see any way that spear fishermen can accuratly judge the size of a fish through the water as the refractive index and light, size propotions through water make this judgement impossible. Plus once speared its a bit to late to say Oh dear thats a small one. Personally recon Spear fishermen take far to much fish compared to anglers. Even if they say thier is a law forbiding sale of speared fish. In my mind any fish that has a legal minimum size should be banned from being caught using this method.

  8. Hi Be very carefull with that type of charger, they can cook the batteries as the type you have require a very specific charge current and voltage, overvoltage will kill it as well as over current charging. their are specific chargers for those batteries and for the specific size, Yuasa have specific ones for their batteries and are not expensive http://www.yuasa-battery.co.uk/ind_chargers.html
  9. Specman from looking at the spec it states 10 watts at 12v dc which equates to 0.833 amps which is a big unit. means that from a fully good condition battery ( 7 amp) you should get about 7 hours, but as the voltage level drops to a stable 11.5 volts which is normal for batteries under load this current consumption will increase to 0.869 amps thus giving a reduced time. Was you battery new and what charge are you using? do you have access to a good volt meter? also do you have the back light on? the spec does not give a power consumption with this on, so its a guess that the quoted draw is for it of. it can double the current draw from your battery.
  10. welcome to the gang. list starts : 1. PFD 2. Inshore Flare pack 3. Water 4. VHF 5. 12. thought the same might happen with my strap. am presently looking at substituting the small cargo style ratchet strap that you can tension (similar to the large straps used over artics), as i find that you put force in the wrong direction with the straps supplied. and canot put enough force behind it. and for only a few quid they make great sense

  16. My questions. Zebra please can you give the exact tested criteria so as not to get missunderstood. 1. Weight ? 2. Loading weight maximum? 3. Microns of coating 4. Anti rust guarantee period 5. Full manufacturers waranty period 6. Size width 7. size base clearance 8. Clearance for keel 9. Securing method and if supplied with trolley 10. Construction material 11. Axel material and fixing 12. collapsability Plus any other information usefull to a buyer. If this information is given then no mistake or missinterpritation of a vague nature would be taken. We all haved opinions, and only ask for exact data so that a fair and true feeling can be taken. One does not have to own anything to make a first impression. who actually bought a squarial for sky?
  17. I have experiance of the water from brean to Weston and can confirm that you must be very aware of the tide rush in both directions. From boating experiance in that area, you will find that for 1 hour either side of a high tide you will be ok for accesss and egress but do not get stuck in the mud or even attempt to go through it the coast guards and rescue teams have many calls from stranded people, plus their have been the occasional death. Going from uphill around the point, be aware of the fast current and swell, from burnham going from the slip is ok but their are strong under currents from up river as you will be aware from the sand banks. A good point is around by watchet, but the exact name slips me at the moment. I new a few guys that went out and had good bass and cod when running. and i've had a few good cod from just a few 100 yds from weston pier. also from weston just before the old pier oposite marine lake thier is a deep area that does give good fishing and the occasional big conga. If you feel that this spot is for you please ask the local Coast guard resuce team who are allways available and they will give you all the advice you need. Hope this is some help.
  18. As they say its not the size that counts but the style that get the points. As buz light year said, falling with style.....
  19. Just For darnsarf might want to use it as you new pic instead of the cat ?
  20. So prowler are you giving yours a J number or just going for U51?
  21. Its that principle that allowed Barnes Wallis to devise a bomb that only needed placing against the side of the dam. The water acted as a sand bag wall increasing the effectivness and direction of the blast Barnes wallis develoved the Dam Busting bomb as a weapon against an ememy. And was test droped on the Severn estery at Brean Down. We cannot denie this as i wa sbrought up with this when young. But can we not seee thw rong now? Are we all blind? Do we not care? Yes being born on B/ham i saw and was used to the UXB but FGS its 2006. have we not learnt? Those who wish to make them seleves blind to the incident thoe being aware are as guilty as those that pulled the trigger. A uxb is an after effect if in doubt try and ask my great grandfather who died at dunkirk. or should we just ask israil?
  22. Are we not messing up the planet enough allready? Yes Jersey has reclaimed land, and land fill only fills holes that have allready filled some one elses pocket when made (pity they dont have to pay for the re filling). But in this modern day if its important and needed their are other ways of doing things. This site is also close to historic landmarks and delicate structures, what will they say if the wrong thing happens Oops Also the idea that the local marine life will move We now have the usual pods of dolphin visiting the island, they are inquisative creatures and dont usually move away. Bass and other predature fish will hang around the marks on tide circumstance. Shell fish? never seen a Scallop leg it. If you dont mind it in Southampton, then you have them, they have enough training in Raleigh and Salsbury plane, to name just 2. The only reason is its free....... another cheap excersise.
  23. next week makes me sick! the rest of the story... Assistant Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean said that his department was approached by the Defence Diving School, who wanted carry out a training exercise in Jersey and decided that the two underwater pinnacles were perfect. 'There is some advantage in moving these rocks and it won't cost us anything, so it was a win-win situation,' said the Deputy, adding that blasting the rocks would encourage bigger cruise ships to stop in Jersey. During the lowest tide of the year the rocks lie about four metres from sea level 580 metres east-north-east and 800 metres south-east-south from St Aubin's Bay. They jut out from an otherwise flat sandbank and throughout history have made crossing the bay hazardous in rough seas. oh what a shame.....
  24. Tis not land based but in the water. so casualties will occur, ? Will they call this collateral damage? or accidental friendly fire?
  25. what affect will this have on sea life? UNDERWATER rocks will be blown up in St Aubin's Bay next week as part of a training exercise by the UK military. Two towers of rock near Ruaudière Rock and Buoy will be packed with explosives and blasted, causing a sea motion that will be felt under water as far away as the south coast of England.
