i only put the tip on about helping the line to sink because P@UL had asked for help about making the line sink in a previous posting. but as davidP says if stick floating on the river or fishing floating baits you need the line to float.

another little tip, get a small piece of sponge put a few drops of washing up liquid on the sponge now fold around the line hold it between finger and thumb as you reel with the other hand and it will degrease it for you helping it to sink.
