with all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person which went almost un-noticed last week. Larry La Prise the man who wrote "The Hokey Kokey" died peacefully aged 83, the most traumatic part for his family was getting him into his coffin, they got his left leg in...and things just started to go downhill from there...

hiya paul, you need slim bodied floats, you,ll only need lines of .10 or .08 for roach size 20 or 18 hooks bigger if they're really having it. if you use shots to shot the float you can sometimes get false bites as the fish mistake the shot for the hemp,best to use styl leads or small shot say No12s put in pairs, elastics you'll need 3/4, hope that helps,

hiya csmaster, dont you kid yourself a 2lb.perch is a good fish, its certainly not small to me, i dont know the canals in derbyshire, but genrally canal fishing can be very good & hold most spieces of fish, the best areas to look for are over hanging bushes, bends, wides,weed beds,etc. the features are there if you look for them, i tend to match fish on the canals so i try and catch anything, my best fish was a carp of 8lb 1oz. in a evening match on a 22 hook & 1lb. hook length & No2 elastic (bit lucky or what). all the best.

well said scott but a "twerp is a twerp" the twerp with a rod.. the twerp with a boat.. the twerp with a bike.. the twerp with a pair of jogging shoes who thinks he's colin jackson and has got to try and hurdle every pole on the towpath, its the twerps that spoil it we can all get on together with a bit of give and take, oh and the twerps with dogs who use the towpath as dog toilets, TWERPS WHO NEEDS THEM.

spindle your could be right, may be a sales gimic but at least that spool will allow you to fish 2-5lbs line,most of the time shops buy line in boxes of 10 spools that are all joined together they probably want you to buy 2 spools of line, there has been some reels in the past with spools that only took 100yds. and like larry1 says you could get custom made spools for the close faced reels that would take only 50-60 yds. of line to get over the bedding in of line, like you say its not a perfect world, maybe they mean the quality of that line suits the reel not the quantity, anyway may your lines allways be tight, all the best,

you cant have a different reel in your box for every different breaking strain of line, you might want to fish 2lbs line the next customer might want to use the reel to fish 4lbs line, you cant have a spool to suit everybody,you'll have to take a bit of time and alter the spool to your needs, if they only sold reels that could only take 2lbs line, then we would have something to moan about.

hiya jangar im allright mate, now then Dragonbat here in yorkshire where men are men we started fishing on the 1st cos we wanted to, not like you lancashire woosies who dare not go till the 16th, no fluff dipping! you were too occupied dipping fluff thats why lambing was allways late in lancs.
