    Gudgeon

    Tench

    Brown trout

    Hybrid

    Sea

    Smoothound

    Empress snapper

    Red snapper

Caught from a vast array of places between an Irish lake and the Arabian Sea

  2. I have only been coarse fishing for two years now and so far My biggest catch was a 2lb Perch but yesterday I landed a 12lb 2oz Bream on 6lb mainline 3lb hooklink to a size 16 barbless hook.

I am totally delighted especially since I had no idea there were fish that size in the pond but am amazed at how easy it was to land it didnt put up a fight at all.

Are all large Bream so easy to bank?

  3. Hi dave,

this is my first post on this forum having lurked in shadows for some time but i thought i could you give some good advice on this one. I have a Gumotex sunny 390 and it's a great boat. I've been kayaking for 25 years now both on the sea and freshwater and bought this one as, like you, I didn't have the space for a hard shell at the time. I was amazed how stable and fast this inflatable was and with the skeg (essential) it tracks really well, but turns easy too. It takes about 15 minutes to set up, the seats take the longest, and in single mode has bags of room.

I live in cornwall and paddle the coastline alot, it's a surprisingly seaworthy boat ( i've been out in some decent swells in it) but you do have to bail every now and then. The best thing is my wife can drop me off in her little car with no roof rack and then pick me up a few miles down the coast. I fish alot from it, mainly trollling plugs with two rods in a crate behind the seat, you do have to be careful of hooks of course, I unhook my fish over the side with my feet dangling in the water. The material is very tough, I've tried to puncture a small piece of the repair patch you get with it and you really have to pull the hook hard to piece it.

As i said i've been a paddler for 25 years and have paddled many kayaks but the sunny for it's versatility has to be one of my alltime favorite boats. Don't be put of by people who haven't paddled one, these aren't your average inflatable.

    Nick.

    Hi Nick

Thanks for the advice and glowing review (you don't work for Gumotex do you?) from what you said it sound exactly like what I am looking for. I will post on how I get on when I get it.

    Cheers again.

    Dave.

  4. Not sure about using an inflatable, would think that hook or lure would snag very easily, wouldnt like to be on the water with a leaky inflatable  . Lidl have some inflatables coming up for next thursday, here http://www.lidl.co.uk/uk/home.nsf/pages/c....P8A2MBU01RUP4OD

Saying that though, 350 squid for an inflatable seems daft, when you could pick up a second hand rigid SOT or even new. Sometimes a bargain comes up on ebay or some of the better suppliers have demo yaks up for sale, worth checking methinks.

I Dont drive or have the space to store a rigid and will only be coarse fishing so using tiny hooks size 16 - 22

  5. I work at Hampstead Heath and have to prepare a new angling leaflet ready for June 16th. Unfortunately, I don’t know much about angling but there’s only me can do it. It would be nice to include some information about the different fishing ponds (there’s 6: Vale Pond, Mixed Bathing Pond, Hampstead No2, Viaduct (red arches), Mens Pond, Boating Pond) from an anglers perspective, and some nice photos of our fish (I gather some of the carp have names!). Can anybody out there help, e.g. with a 2 sentence review of a pond you use or picture of a catch you were proud of?

He is only a 10min walk from the Heath and usually has something to say about it when asked.

  6. Depending on the weather between now and then, you are possibly a bit early ,May would be what i would say is the real start of the season, but you could have some Striped Bass, Bluefish, Cod,Flounder (Fluke) or Weakfish to go for.

Try asking on some US sites as to when things start or what you could expect to find and how /where to get them.

I'm sure a search will reveal others you can ask or get better info....they normally are very helpfull.

  7. I Am staying near Freshwater for a long weekend in Feb with some friends, However none of the rest of them fish so I will probably be only able to grab a 3-4 hour session. Can anybody advise me on targets bait etc to make the most of a short session.

    Thanks in advance.

    Dave

  8. I am off to Goa on friday for 3 weeks and plan to do some sea fishing (sorry for swearing on a coarse site) but would like to try some freshwater too their is a river near to where i am staying and last time i was their i saw fish in it probably about 25-30cm anybody got any suggestions on bait tackle etc etc.

    Thanks in advance.

    PS

I am also off to upstate new york next easter.

  9. I used to fish the regents in Kings Cross for a few years until a year or two ago.

I'd go with my son Jack, and he'd get the usual roach, perch and skimmer bream, and I would go for the Carp or pike.

I have caught no carp there in the 5 sessions I tried (many stories of bigguns down there), and only 1 pike on the lure. Having said that I have had 2 screaming takes on the pike, both of which were uncharacteristically lost by myself.

I also once lost an eel at the net that went for my mackerel deadbait.

The reason I stopped going was the other thing I kept catching - plastic bags!

Is it still plagued with them down there?

I have been tempted to go back there to go for the pike again but the blanking and the plastic bags go way too much.

Where abouts do you fish on the stretch?

    Cheers,

    Simon

The Caledonian road end and their is still quite a large population of plastic bags in it.

Fished there again last night usual Roach,Bream & Perch but no sign of any eels.

  10. I have only recently taken up coarse fishing and have been feeder fishing with maggots the regents canal at kings x at least once a week every week since i did about 3 months ago, All i ever catch are Bream,Roach & Perch but yesterday evening I caught 3 eels can anybody tell me why I suddenly started catching something differint and what else is in that stretch of canal.

    Thanks in advance

  11. Crust is also a good bait for bigger fish but needs enough split shot placed about an inch from the hook to keep it down, cos otherwise it floats. When someone else has done the groundbaiting for you in the way saw yesterday you could also try small pieces of slowly sinking flake or small pieces of crust fished on the surface.

Sorry for sounding lika a complete idiot but how do I go about fishing a small piece of crust on the surface

  12. I Have only just recently taken up coarse fishing and have been feeder fishing my local stretch of the regents canal a lot, yesterday when i got their someone had thrown a loaf of bread in and the water looked like it was boiling thier was so many fish eating it . Can anyone tell me if I can and how i go about using bread to catch fish.

    Thanks in advance
