Came back from Bergen tuesday. I am fortunate to have friends with 20ft boats there. They live in the Morvik area a few miles north of central Bergen. We fished out of Eidvagen marina. The marina is in an enclosed bay on 3 sides and is less than a mile long. Its deep, averaging 200 ft with the entrance much more. There were plenty of ling. average in excess of 10 lbs. We had a couple over 15lb and my wife (lucky) picked up one of 30lb. No cod (time of year?) but several greenland halibut to 3lb, haddock about the same and pollack, coalies and gurnard. None huge but still good fun on light tackle. Best by far is 2 to 3 ft trace, single 5/0 hook with herring strip. Tried mackerel but limited success. Locals troll with feathers and lures of different sizes. Friend last year caught cod in same area in Sept under mackerel shoals to over 25lb.
Speaking to local tackle shop owner who said charter boats were available ex Bergen or further west towards North Sea. Price about 300 pds for 4-5 hr trip. Also said the ling in the outer Bergen harbour can get v.large at 30 kilo or so.
