  1. River Kennet - Nr Newbury 1800-2330 Overcast and breezy - river low despite recent rains. 1 Bream; 3lb 5oz, 6 Dace and a brownie of about a lb. Another blank barbel session preceded by an hour or so on the float. Did at least get a rattle on the ledger rods this time - but it turned out to be a surprise bream (from a very fast bit of water too). Shortly after this capture an otter surfaced right over my baits - putting paid to any further bites from anything apart from signals.
  2. Alders Lake 2000 - 2330 Warm, overcast with a bit of a breeze. 3 Bream; 4lb 7oz & 2lb 14oz X 2 (possibly same fish!) Had planned an evening on Willows - float fishing the margins in the hope of snaffling one of the lake's big crucians - but the ducks and geese were a total pain in the wotsits! Ducks constantly swimming through my line and making a beeline for my swim from all points of the compass whenever any bait hit the water - geese too - but they then decided to come up on the bank and every time my back was turned started trying to get into my bucket and peck at my holdall! One then did a massive **** on my rod bag - and by then I'd had enough!!! Trouble is they are so used to getting fed next door they were completely fearless - impossible to scare them off!!! So after 2 hours battling with the wildfowl I was on somewhere considerably more serene. Still no tench from here this summer - but the bream, as ever, were obliging!
  3. My favourite and the way I learned to fish. I love pole fishing for bream, roach, carp, rudd Carrasio and tench. I have a few videos here of my pole fishing adventures. If anyone has any videos or particular stories I would like to hear them as I am reminiscing about Pole fishing.
  4. Alders Lake - Thatcham 1800 - 2300 Very warm and muggy a shirtsleeves evening. Still 20ºC when I packed up. 2 Bream; 5lb 3oz & 3lb 12oz. 1 Perch (small) Making the most of the warm evenings! Both fish coming just as it got fully dark - my only bites (apart from the early perch)...
  5. Alders Lake - Thatcham 1800 - 2315 Warm, still evening. 16ºC when I packed up. 3 Bream ; 5lb 6oz (again!), 5lb 0oz, 4lb 2oz. A lovely benign September evening. Bites not as prolific as last Friday (not that prolific is ever an apt adjective here!), but caught enough bream to get well and truely slimed!

Alders lake - Thatcham 1800 - 0000 Cool and overcast after heavy shower. 3 Bream; 4lb 13oz, 5lb 2oz, 5lb 6oz. 2 Tench; both circa 1½lb. That was a fun evening - seeing my starlit float rise and go flat with satisfying regularity. First bite as it got properly dark at 2030 - with slow but steady action there-after! All fish on meat.
  7. Good day all, I last fished the canal at Lapworth was about 4 years ago and I had some nice perch, but I remember a couple of blokes fishing with swimfeeders in the top pound for Bream. They caught a few roach but I didn't see them catch any bream. I was thinking of going soon and thought I might have a bash for the bream.... if there are any in there. Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance, Jack
  8. Pumphouse Lake - CEMEX Yateley 1815 - 0415 Lovely warm still night. Temp down to 9ºC in the car when I left but it must have been several degrees warmer in my little micro-climate under the trees - didn't need a coat or brolly all session. 1 Bream; 5lb 3oz, 1 Tench; 4lb 2oz, 1 roach, 1 perch. 5 hours of little activity, followed by 5 hours of no activity (followed by 5 hours sleep!). All fish caught by 2300 (could have had a lot more kip!) with no bites thereafter. Tench and bream on float-fished meat - tiddlers on maggot. All fish in the margins. Not a bleep on the lead all night (was fishing 14mm pellet).
  9. NAA Stillwater, Widmead 1830 - 0800 Heavy evening showers giving way to clearing skies - feeling quite cool by dawn (12ºC) 3 Tench; 6lb 14oz, 3lb 6oz, 2lb. 3 Bream; 5lb 3oz, 4lb 5oz, 4lb 1oz. 4 Carp biggest 5lb 14oz. 4 roach & 4 perch. Slow but steady night - quite a lot of activity which didn't translate to bites! Paul had a much quieter session ( he did sleep through most of it!) with just a blank saving bream to show before he packed up at first light! * All carp (and biggest bream) on the feeder, others caught float fishing the margins. Biggest ever tench from this venue. *Paul has asked me to point out that his half hearted attempts at trying to catch something were due to his ignoring his wife's advice (she's a nurse by the way!) not to go fishing when he wasn't feeling very well. A night on a chilly, damp lake bank is probably not the best cure for a streaming summer cold!
  10. Northcroft Stream 0700 - 0900 Overcast 13ºC. Stream low - sluice was ¾'s closed. 1 Pike 4lb 4oz, 2 Chub 2½lb, 1¾lb, 1 Bream 1¾lb, 3 doz Roach, Dace & Gudgeon (mainly roach and gudgeon), 2 Perch. Trotted red maggot - pike took a couple of red maggots on the retrieve.
  11. Newbury AA Lake - Widmead 1800 - 0500 Mainly cloudy - breezy at first. 20º - 13ºC 14 carp - (best 4; 10lb 5oz, 8lb 2oz, 7lb 15oz, 7lb 3oz all others in 5+ - 6+ bracket), 5 Bream (5lb 6oz, 5lb 2oz, 4lb 14oz, 4lb 2oz, 3lb 11oz), a doz rudd, roach and perch (mainly rudd). A busy night!! Most carp on pellet, though had 4 carp and 4 of the bream on float fishing margin tactics - meat, corn and maggot all catching. Packed up at 1st light to beat the rain!
  12. Newbury AA Lake - Thatcham 1330 - 0830 Overcast and almost no wind. Light persistent drizzle started at 1600 and continued uninterupted until 0400 when heavy persistent drizzle kicked in! 12º - 16ºC 9 Bream ( best 5lb 13oz, 7 between 3.08 - 4.10 & a skimmer), 6 carp (smallest 5.08, biggest 8.01), 2 Tench 1½lb & 4lb 10oz, 2 doz roach and rudd (mainly rudd), 1 perch. Very pleasant session - despite the rain!! All carp on ledgered pellet but most other fish on float fished margin tactics. Red maggot or sweetcorn catching most of the fish. Paul had a similar haul of carp and bream - though didn't find any tench.
  13. River Kennet - Woolhampton 1830 - 2330 Still and overcast. AT & WT both 50ºF. River down 6-9 inches on last visit here (18 Sep) minimal leaf litter in river (expect that to change this weekend!) 2 Bream (2-3lb), 1 Chub 4lb 7oz All fish caught before 2100 (could have had an early night!). Chub was very long, had a huge head and mouth and was VERY lank and out of condition. Tail and anal fins frayed and bloodied - looked like it had just finished spawning! Reckon it ought to have been a pound or so heavier.
  14. Horseshoe Lake, Yateley 1930 - 0630 Clear night - misty morning, Temp 22ºC ar dusk---->12ºC at Dawn 1 bream 4¼lb Well that was a good nights sleep!!! Had only bite (and fish) within 1½hrs of arriving (on ledgered pellet) and hardly another touch all night. No further bites on pellet. Float fished meat, black pudding, broken up Meteor boilies in the margins. A few half-hearted bites on BP and the boilies but nothing hittable.
  15. Pumphouse Lake (Yateley) 1930-0000 Warm (17ºC) and overcast - started raining as I packed up... 3 Bream (6lb 2oz, 5lb 9oz, 4lb 13oz) Fished 2 rods - pellet on the lead produced not a touch. Started float fishing maggots in the margins - and had no bites for the 1st hour or so - sense of deja vu! Switched to float fished meat - and all the fish fell to this - though rather wished they were tench! Final fish was right on the stroke of midnight when I'd packed most of the gear away - and got the net reasonably dry - result; one car smelling of bream slime - yuk!
  16. Summer Pit (Yateley) 2000 - 0000 Clear and breezy after heavy afternoon rain. 5 Tench (3½ - 4¾lb), 1 Bream 4lb 10oz, 1 rudd That's better - nearly didn't go as I want to be there early but was held up getting home. And I forgot to take any bread. All fish on float fished meat - lift method. Lake is around 18 inches deeper than last year. No sign of any crucians. Lovely evening - had the place to myself.
  17. River Kennet (nr Newbury) 1900 - 2300 Sunny and breezy 2 Barbel (7lb 15oz, 4½lb), 1 chub (3lb), 1 dace (!) River up (as you'd expect - but dropping) Quite coloured but no small debris (just the odd small tree!!!). Larger barbel 1st cast. Loads of small rustles and knocks which weren't crayfish (no marks on the pellet) - but which I'm pretty sure were dace - as I managed to catch one on 14mm pellet for the 2nd trip running - this one was much smaller too!
  18. River Kennet (Woolhampton) 2000 - 2300 Dry, Clear and breezy. 1 Common Carp (9lb6oz), 2 Chub (both <3lb), 1 Bream (<3lb) Halibut pellet - as usual! Carp last cast!
